The series of imposing occurrences which have distracted my mind in recent times could not prevent me from expressing my candid viewpoint on the story published on the back page of the Monday, May 5, 2014 edition of the Daily Observer captioned “PUL’s US$ 100,000.00 Case Reawakenens as Journalists Dignity Begins Campaign for George Barpeen’s Prosecution”.
Not only do I wish to highly applaud “Journalists Dignity” for this bold step in the right direction; but I am hoping and praying that it will not relent in bringing this matter which has lingered for years now to a close through its persistent and determined efforts.
As mentioned in the story, it is obvious that corrupt Liberians will use the misappropriation of the US$ 100,000.00 as a trump card to accuse Liberian journalists – even the innocent and credible ones – of being corrupt themselves. This is why all Liberian journalists should accord serious consideration to ensuring that the US$ 100,000.00 is fully accounted for.
The Press Union of Liberia (PUL) must be decisive in bringing this matter to a close. George Barpeen, the construction company or who so ever that embezzled the US$ 100,000.00 must be prosecuted. This case must not be allowed to drag on into eternity.
Remember, a good leadership does not weaver but stands resolute in resolving an acute problem.
