What Force on Earth Can Stand the Rage of an Angry And United People?

For the last few days, President Weah has been on the campaign path traveling from one county to the next to promote candidates of his choice. His recent whirlwind visits to Grand Bassa, Bong, Cape Mount and Bomi, intended to shore up support for candidates of his choice have reportedly been received with little interest.

It appears certain that the December 8 election will indeed, constitute a litmus test of President Weah’s popularity as he mulls a second-term quest in October 2023. His exhortation to citizens of Bong county calling on them to support the candidacy of incumbent Senator Henry Yallah appears to have been poorly received by the people of Bong County, according to sources.

In Bomi, President Weah railed at Representative Edwin Snowe, accusing him of misdirecting resources he (President Weah) donated to the people of Bomi sometime ago. According to the President, he even donated solar lights to the people of Bomi through Representative Snowe, which he claims was his personal gift to the people of Bomi.

Reports from Bomi say that reaction to the President’s rants against Representative Snowe and his call for support to former House Speaker Alex Tyler did not resonate. Sources say Tyler, who hails from Monoh in Klay District, enjoys very little or no support from the people of that  district. They maintain that during his tenure at the House, he did little or nothing for the people of Monoh, let alone Bomi County.

However, it appears the President’s biggest hope for a massive victory at the polls is pinned on the outcome of the Montserrado polls. And it appears no stone is being left unturned in order to secure the much-desired victory. The candidate of his choice, Thomas Fallah, has been on the campaign trail distributing wads of cash consisting of brand new 500 Liberian dollar banknotes.

Fallah’s cash distribution spree of brand-new Liberian dollar banknotes is happening at a time when the public is faced with an acute shortage of Liberian dollar banknotes, although over L$4 billion of such notes have been printed. Banks are issuing out mutilated notes to their customers who are forced to receive same.

Also, customers wishing to access ATM machines at the various banks have been frustrated by the non-availability of banknotes at the ATMs. Customers are complaining bitterly about being denied access to their accounts, while local banks are complaining about huge overdrafts owed by the Government of Liberia through the Central Bank of Liberia.

The public, however, suspects that the huge amount of cash being distributed in and around Montserrado county, especially in Monrovia by candidate Thomas Fallah, came from the stash of money imported by into country recently and possibly from the missing L$16 billion. This is breeding public resentment directed at this government.

And this explains why the air is tension-filled, going by what is being aired on the various radio talk-shows around the country. It does appear, from all indications, that the current economic downturn and its accompanying hardships will be a constant in these elections, militating against candidates of the CDC in general.

Gone indeed are the times, it appears, when just a nod or wave of the hand by George Weah was enough, far more than enough needed to send his favored candidate(s) cruising to victory at the polls. This was demonstrated during the last Montserrado elections which saw Darius Dillon pitted against President Weah’s chosen candidate, Paulita Wie, and crushing her decisively at the polls.

Now just how the lack of a credible Voters Roll/Final Registration Roll (FRR) will play out during the elections remain to be seen. It should however be noted that the National Elections Commission may be remiss in its duties and accordingly fail to publish and post the FRR for public vetting before the conduct of the polls.

Should this be the case, it can be reasonably expected that there will be trouble on polling day when voters discover for example, that their names are not included on the FRR. Such a situation occurred during the 2017 elections and it gave rise to the illegal use of what then NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoyah called an “Addendum Roll”.

On reflection, then President Sirleaf was fully aware of this, but chose to ignore such violations of the law by Chairman Korkoyah because, by then, it was clear that she had a hand in the elections. The visit to her home by NEC Elections Magistrates accompanied by Korkoyah and a former UN official, just on the eve of elections, clearly revealed her intent to manipulate the elections results.

According to pundits, the hand of President Weah is being seen in these upcoming elections just as the hand of President Sirleaf was seen in the 2017 elections. Back then, President Sirleaf had the presence of a residual force well-armed UN troops, with air power back-up in the Ivory Coast to bolster her or counter any violence arising from electoral disputes.

Their presence, nevertheless, did nothing to forestall the rise in tension, neither did it deter the parties from taking the matter to court on grounds of fraud. It was however Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine’s foresight and exercise of restraint that for the most part served to defuse the tension, which was at boiling point.

But that was then, unlike now, where there are no UN troops in country. The country’s fledging military has limited strength and a poor human rights record, despite training by US military officers.

Its poor human rights record compares similarly to that of state security institutions, particularly the Liberia National Police. And, they are, according to former law enforcement officials, reinforced by a rag-tag group of irregulars composed of notorious criminals, gang leaders and ex-fighters. If this is what emboldens officials to flout the law, believing in the might of their security, they could be in for a quite rude awakening when push comes to shove, according to former law enforcement officials. What force on earth can stop the rage of an angry and united people, they ask?

  1. Liberians and Friends of Liberia,

    The Environment and air of lawlessness was invoked and introduced in Liberia when:

    1. Mrs Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her Government fearing that after leaving power and the presidency, the people of Liberia represented by a responsible and responsive Government she, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf could possibly be indicted, arrested and prosecuted for the Crimes of Property, Economic Sabotage and perhaps Misapplication of Entrusted Property, Money Laundering and Capital Flight and what have you;

    2. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her Government in criminal association acted and combined effort with National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC) then headed by Cllr. Jerome George Korkoya and refused to clean-up the Final Voter Roll (FVR) and by so doing, conducted a rigged, fraud and highly compromised 2017 Representative and Presidential Elections in Liberia;

    3. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her Government in 2017, criminally and in in violation of Liberia’s Constitution and Elections Laws, went ahead and printed nearly additional 1000,000 ballot papers and criminally used the nearly 100,000 ballot and stole the 2017 elections to bring George Manneh Weah and his CDC-led Government to power, Mr. Weah having openly promised and committed a CDC-led Government NEVER to indict, arrest, prosecute and convict Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the Sirleaf families;

    4. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her Government sat on their hands and feet and watched Mr. Fallah Saah Gbollie, Attorney Michael Allison and the Late Harry A. Greaves and other skilled Liberians abducted, tortured and murdered under mysterious and unexplained reasons with impunity.

    5. Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf publicly withdrew and used Liberia’s monies to bribe the Legislature of Liberia to criminally enact in Laws and the nearly 70 Concession Agreements in total violation of Liberia’s Constitution and Statutory Laws with impunity;

    6. When Mr. George Manneh Weah and his CDC-led Government were publicly brought to power by and through a rigged and compromised 2017 Elections and realizing that fraud, deception and officially murders happen to be the appropriate way and role to take to make Liberians and residents to fear their Government;

    7. When Mr. George Manneh Weah and all officials of the CDC-led Government openly refused and neglected to declare their assets before and after taking to state power and the presidency of Liberia; and,

    8. When Albert Peters, Gifty Lama, George Fahnboto, and Emmanuel B. Nyesuwa were officially abducted, tortured and murdered and Mr. Weah and his CDC-led Government chose to publicly LIE to Liberia and the world that Albert, Gift, George, and Emmanuel, murdered in the space of 8 days, died from ACCIDENT!

    In light of the aforesaid, Mr. Manneh and his controlled National Elections Commission of Liberia (NEC) see nothing wrong with openly and publicly violating the Laws of Liberia knowing fully well that the Courts of Liberia, will look the other way and regrettably and absolutely do nothing.

    To us, it makes perfect and good sense for the CPP and Alliance of Opposition Political Parties to join hands and act together to oppose and object to the reckless and irresponsible action of Mr. Weah and his CDC-led Government. Only a well organized opposition political grouping can save Liberia and residents.

  2. You complained too much about the past regime as if it did not do well, you should have stayed during the regime of Charles G. Taylor and helped to choose the right party during the elections of 2005. Since your returned have you not seen some improvement than when you left?
    Instead of complaining now join the political campaign and make the necessary envisioned changes for the better, you cannot sit on the fence and expect others to died for you.

    • Mr. Flomo, during the days of Mr. Charles G. Taylor’s Government, I played no role and neither did I work for or in the Charles G. Taylor-led. Government. Practically, I co-owned and operated then in Liberia (1997-2001) private law office known and called: Civil Rights Association of Liberian Lawyers (CALL).

      Unlike many other Liberians, have NEVER moved or influenced by Government job.

      So you are totally wrong and mistaken to associate and attempt to link me to the days of Mr. Charles G. Taylor and his Government. I don’t link and/or associate my name and professional character with a criminal regime.

      Just so you know, it was and is Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and her Government that printed the nearly 1000,000 ballot papers that helped to compromise and rigged the 2017 Presidential and Representative Elections that brought Mr. George Manneh Weah led his Government to power in 2018.

      Also, it is and remains Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the Sirleaf family and on Mr. Johnson Sirleaf’s Watch that Mr. Fayiah Saah Gbollie, Atty. Michael Allison and Mr. Harris A. Greaves, were abducted, tortured and murdered. These are undeniable and undisputed facts.

      Indicative of what you have written, you are fully in love Mrs. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf family. That up to you.

      As to when I left and returned to Liberia, has little or nothing to do with you. My right to belong to or not to belong to a political party, remains my ultimate and known legal right. You cannot control that right.

      All along, I have thoughtfully advocated for a combined and a strong political grouping. To me, the 15 or 22 political parties that contested the 2011 and 2017 Presidential and General Elections in Liberia is confusing and makes no common sense.

      So today, it is my understanding that CPP and the countless political parties, Rainbow Coalition, have come together and speaking with a single voice on issues affecting Liberia. That smart and welcoming.

      All along, I have agreed to see the 15 to 22 opposition political parties to regroup and function as a unit. That is absolutely great and the best leadership for Liberia.

      Let me alone to identify and join the political party of my choice. I have not Gabada John Flomo to die for me. I not be asking for such favor not in the future. You can Trust that.

      In January 2020, visited Liberia and Africa Center for Law and Human Rights Inc., the Law Office I co-founded and co-owned. While in Liberia, I visited many places. T

      For professional reasons,I travelled to and visited the 13th Judiciary Circuit Court. In Kakata, MarGibi County. I saw some development, but I am not impressed.

      If you think Mrs. Johnson Sirleaf after receiving nearly US$19 Billion in development and investment fund she should have done better for Liberia and our people.

      Lawlessness started and ended with Mrs. Johnson Sirleaf and the Sirleafs, trust me!

    • Mr. Gbada J. Flomo, permit me to restate what I stated about the Johnson Sirleaf-led Government.

      • Frederick A.B. Jayweh,
        Characters like you who talked a whole lot lack common sense.
        You bla bla bla too much without any sense of reasoning.
        What does “1000,000” represent???
        A DUMB BELL like you calling yourself a “Cllr”??? Who made you a “Counselor”???
        Just running your mouth all over the place with no sense of direction.

  3. Mr. Editor, you are a cheap liar. No wonder you always prefer to hide behind a webadmin.. The REALITY when President Weah visited Bong recently is that Henry Yallah is the incoming Senator for Bong County following the December 8 elections. Incumbents influence and power together with Henry Yallahs own large following in Bong, not to talk about his been vigorously campaign for by people like Superintendent Walker, Sulunteh, incumbent Marvin Cole, etc. there is certainly no chance for any other candidate in Bong County with Yallah as a candidate.

    As for Edwin Snowe in Bomi, the voters and those who own the electorates there told Snowe that he should not run for the Senate, for they will not vote for him. CDC enjoys this same tumultous following in Capa Mount! You do not have to lie to make yourself feel good! Nyonblee Karngar Lawrences chances were buried with Brumskine after the voters in Bassa saw how irresponsible Nyonblee behaved during that funeral. On top of that Gbehzongar is THE MAN OF THE PEOPLE OF GBEHZON.

  4. Daily Observer,
    You and your collaborators are very angry about the Presidency of his Excellency President Dr George Menneh Weah, but you have many more years to be Frustrated.
    Gone are the days when characters like you would mislead the people with LIES, gossips and rumours, for your personal selfish interest.

    In the past, Liberians pushed very hard against a one party system.
    So no one is pushing for a one party system in LIBERIA.
    The pending Midterm Senatorial Elections are not intended to create a one party system in LIBERIA. President George Menneh Weah and the CDC are fully aware of that.
    What is happening in Liberia is called a “Participatory Democracy”
    LIBERIA has close to 30 registered political parties along with many Independent Candidates. Many of the registered political parties have grouped themselves into “coalitions”.
    For example;
    1. CDC
    2. CPP
    3. RAINBOW Coalition
    At present, political parties coalitions and independent political groups are vigorously campaigning for their various candidates, within the 15 Counties of Liberia. President Weah and the CDC should be no exception.

    I said this before and I am saying it again.
    Characters like you are trumpeting for VIOLENCE, CHAOS and ANARCHY in Liberia, just like you did prior to the 1990 crisis that led to the deaths of nearly 300,000 and the destruction of LIBERIA.
    Let me repeat what I said before. The WAR DRUM that you are beating will not be like the 1990s.

  5. Daily Observer,
    Even if the CDC should win only three or five out of 15 Counties, it will be great, as long as Liberians have PEACE, SECURITY and STABILITY.
    Stop the WAR MONGERING.

  6. Isaac, from where I sit and can see, you absolutely lack the capacity and professional capacity to speak to and/or address the issue of democracy, good governance, accountability and the Rule of Law or thereof that impact the health and life of Liberia and so, I will not dare waste my precious time on you.

    In short, you lack the capacity and capability to speak to the issues impacting Liberia. And so, I decline and reject any chance to waste my time on you.

    Absolutely, you are a distraction and seeking public notice. Unfortunate and indeed no thoughtful!

  7. Isaac Dikenah has a God-given right to say what’s on his mind. I may not agree with him always, but I wholeheartedly support his right to express himself.
