The tragic scene last Friday of the body of a woman found naked and bloody, has left Carey Street community residents in fear, with several held for questioning.
It was on the night of the late Quincy B’s wake keeping that ended abruptly after an outburst of violence, when at about 9:00 p.m. on Lynch Street, a 48 year old woman identified as Korto Kollie was allegedly ganged raped to death on her way home not far from the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
According to Police sources, the late Korto had been on a visit to Monrovia from Harrisburg since March 20 when her brother, whose name is being withheld, brought her to Monrovia for a family meeting.
Due to the lack of space in her brother’s house, Korto reportedly slept behind a garage across the street from where her brother lives.
“She left his house around 8:00 p.m. when the wake keeping of Quincy B had become tense. It is believed that somewhere along her route, which meant passing in-between the garage that separated the street from where she slept at night, a gang of men kidnapped and raped her to death,” our source stated.
Sources said that at about 6:30 a.m. on March 25, the next day, passersby who found the victim immediately posted pictures of her naked corpse on FaceBook before she was discovered by police officers.
“When police arrived on the scene of the crime, the clothes she was wearing, with a significant amount of blood, was found in one of the cars parked at the garage. Based on the findings, the entire staff at the garage was held for questioning and some are detained at the Central Police station,” stated a source with the Liberian National Police.
According to our source, Korto’s corpse was discovered on the ground, two feet away from the car where she was allegedly gang raped.
“It appears she might have tried to get out and crawl for help where she passed away. That could be the reason why her body was out of the car where the gruesome attack took place,” our source added.
Meanwhile, the garage staff that is hired to sleep on the premises to protect the cars and scraps was placed under police custody, and the body is at a morgue for further investigation.
