Westwood Construction Company completed 104 kilometers Gbarnga-Zorzor Highway, about two years ago, Mr. Eric L. Bracewell, owner of Mandee Construction Firm has confirmed.
A local daily recently reported that the Gbarnga -Zorzor road was not completed by Westwood and alleged that the route was done by a contingent of the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL).
But investigation conducted by a team of journalists who recently toured the area has confirmed the route was fully executed by Westwood Corporation.
Commuters plying the route told journalists in separate interviews that the corridor, which is now considered one of the best roads in rural Liberia, was fully rehabilitated by Westwood Construction Company.
“It is unfortunate for people to sit in Monrovia and make claims about they don’t know,” Alfred Zayzay, a commercial bus driver who usually plies the road, said.
Mr. Zayzay, however, disclosed that UNMIL Engineering Contingent did spot intervention near a bridge on the road to create access for their trucks.
Bong County Resident Engineer, Emelus Toliver disclosed that the road was completed by Westwood and asked media institutions to verify their information.
Mr. Toliver noted that as Resident Engineer, he monitored and evaluated the road which is in line with the specification contained in the contract between the government and Westwood.
“I just don’t sit here. I monitor and evaluate projects and make reports to the Ministry of Public Works. The road that they are talking about was completed 100 percent,” he said.
It may be recalled that President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, during a recent visit to Lofa County was impressed by the level of work done on the Gbarnga-Zorzor Road, leading her to commend the Liberia-owned construction company that completed the job.
