The last matches in round 19 of the Liberia Football Association 1st division championship league yesterday ended at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium with third-place Monrovia Club Breweries conceding their fourth defeat of the season after they were crushed 2-0 by Watanga FC.

Two goals from Kelvin Potis and Meleka Cooker were enough for Watanga to move up to the 7th position with 25 points; one point above Jubilee FC and one point behind fifth place Keitrace FC.

The defeat for Coach Fraincis Sarploh’s Breweries gave a little breathing space to the Shipping Boys of LISCR after thrashing Jubliee FC 3-0 in their previous match that has placed them four points above the FA Cup holders, MC Breweries.

Breweries, despite winning three, and drawing three of their previous seven matches, have not shown much strength in front of goal after scoring four goals in their last seven league games.

Breweries will be in action on Sunday, July 9, against fifth place Nimba United at the North Star Stadium after their FA Cup quarterfinal 2nd leg encounter with 3rd division Samira FC.

The win for the Srimex-sponsored Watanga was their second since the start of phase two and their seventh of the season.

The team has been struggling form the beginning of the season and conceded eight defeats, but managed to draw four that kept them from the relegation zone.

With one point behind 6th place Keitrace FC, the fixture for the two sides will be an intriguing encounter as both teams will clash for the top position. A win for Keitrace will extend their lead to four points, while a win for Watanga will see them claim the 6th position-two points above Keitrace.

Earlier at the ATS, Keitrace FC came from two goals down to settle with relegation side ELWA United with a 2-2 draw.

A 69th minute goal from Keitrace’s highest goal scorer Amadia Kawah and a 74th minute equalizer from Titus Sukor rescued the Somalia Drive based club from conceding another defeat.

Keitrace were under pressure after losing their previous three league matches and also lost their 1st leg clash against Nimba United in the first leg of the FA Cup quarterfinals.

Following their defeat in the FA Cup that recorded their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions, Coach Gabriel Johns was suspended for time indefinite after their four consecutive defeats.

Based on the result, Keitrace remained in the 6th position with 26 points out of 20 matches — five points behind fifth place Nimba United.

ELWA United remain in the 11th position with 14 points after wining two and drawing eight out of 20 league matches.
