Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, has re-echoed Liberia’s gratefulness to the Government and people of Nigeria for the role they continue to play in the development process of Liberia and that Liberia will continue to cherish the ties that bind the two countries.
Vice President Boakai said the relationship that holds the two nations together is one characterized by friendship and brotherhood in the spirit of one Africa and one global community.
Vice President Boakai made the commendation yesterday at his Capitol Hill office in Monrovia when he honored soldiers of the Nigerian Army serving with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), particularly those that are assigned directly to the Vice Presidential detail, according to a release.
He lauded them for serving his office with “distinction,” and praised them for their high level of discipline.
VP Boakai also recalled the ultimate sacrifices Nigerians and other contingents have made in Liberia’s peace process.
The Vice President further hailed Nigerian investors including bankers, insurers and airline owners that continue to immensely contribute to the building of the Liberian economy. He noted that Nigeria has gone the extra mile in the restoration of peace in the country.
The outgoing Commander of the Nigerian Army Battalion 35, Lieutenant/Colonel Ahmed said the certificate presented to each of the soldiers will go a long way in spurring the already cordial relationship into greater heights. He subsequently introduced Lt/Col. S. Aliyu, the incoming commander, to the Vice President.
