Benoni Urey, political leader of the opposition All Liberian Party (ALP), lambasted over the weekend the endorsement of Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s presidential bid by 19 Senators and 31 Representatives who claim that among the presidential candidates, the VP is the most competent and qualified to lead the country.  Urey referred to the endorsements as “insignificant ventures.”

Speaking at the launch of a grassroots political group, the National Association for the Masses in Support of Urey’s Presidency (NAMSUP) at Joe Bar sports pitch in Paynesville, the businessman turned politician said that under no condition will the Unity Party get another chance to lead the country.

“We are not moved by the failed lawmakers’ endorsements of the Vice President, neither by any other group of citizens across the country. All I can say and will continue to say even up to election is that Liberians are not stupid to allow the continuity of a political institution that has impoverished them more in the course of 12 years than any other regime in our country’s history,” Urey said.

He said VP Boakai and his supporters should keep dreaming on ascending to the presidency, and that victory is certain for his party.

“Let them continue to catch their so called big fishes. We don’t need them. All we know now is that the common people in the villages and towns across the country are in their numbers understanding our message, which calls for the removal from public office of all UP officials after October 10,” he said.

Mr. Urey also claimed that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is manipulating the electoral process by spending tax payers’ money to break down strong opposition coalitions. He, however, did not give details of his claim against the President.

“We are making our points clear now. The President is not interested in seeing the process having its own level playing field. She must stop if she so cherishes the peace she is boasting of everyday or things might not be good for us,” he said.

The ALP political leader said VP Boakai, who he described as “ too old,” lacks any new idea to usher in change.

“He is now 74 years old and is concluding his second term in office as Vice President of our beloved country, but cannot boast of any advice he has given to Madam Sirleaf that helped in curtailing the rampant corruption and other vices,” he noted.

He called on his new political group, NAMSUP, to get ready for a nationwide tour in order to campaign and win votes to unseat the UP led government.

Also speaking, tough talking political commentator Henry P. Costa said it is time for Liberians to wheel the change by themselves.

“Now is the moment for us to prove to the world that we are not blind and insensitive to the ordeals we are going through as a nation. We have to stand up and vote for a change that will transform our lives, the lives of our children and those of generations unborn,” he said, calling Urey the God-sent messiah who is prepared to bring the needed change.

“The first Article of our Constitution reads that ‘All power is inherent in the people’ and it is their free will that institutes government and if that government fails to benefit them, it is their social responsibility to change that government through constitutional means,” Costa said.

He said the benefits the Constitution talks about are citizens receiving from their government good and affordable healthcare delivery systems, better learning institutions for both vocational and academic education, equal justice for all, and jobs, among others.

“Now, can anyone here tell me that we have benefited satisfactorily from the UP led government? I am sure no one here can give ‘yes’ for an answer to this question. And it is because of this reason we should vote for Urey, the farmer who is always on the ground, regardless of how difficult the times might be,” he said.

“Some of you get angry when I talk the way I talk on the radio about this government, but I am not moved by your mixed reactions,” said Costa, who is the host of the show.

“As a good citizen I know that President Sirleaf and her followers are hurting our country more than doing us any good,” he said, adding that no one who is corrupt and refuses to change deserves any respect from society.

“If you know anything about the Social Contract Theory you will not oppose anyone who speaks against the wickedness of a leadership such as this UP led government,” Costa stated.

He said President Sirleaf did not rest at any point in time to speak against corruption, nepotism and several other societal ills when Tolbert and Doe were presidents, but has sharply fallen short of doing any better than either of the two presidents since she came to power almost 12 years ago.

“I have no apology for the president or her followers who have hurt over 90 percent our people nationwide by signing many bogus contracts with foreign companies and denying all of us our constitutional rights to equally benefit,” he said.

Costa is a representative aspirant in Montserrado District #6, which he believes he will win with no hindrance.

The head of NAMSUP, Darius Cole, said his group presently has a membership of 2,000 people in over ten communities around Monrovia, and he is working to win tens of thousands more for Urey to become president.

Mr. Cole said his group came into existence in November last year but waited for the right time, which he considers now, to disclose to the ALP political leader their plans to campaign for his presidency.

  1. Few politicians speak and or act with the patriotism, discipline, power, clarity, grace, and intellectual verve, Benoni Urey summons in contemporary Liberian politics!!! I mean Benoni adeptly inter alia highlights and debunks with valor and with vigor the threats the useless Unity Party and its corrupt and inept, and incompetent, Joseph Boakai pose to the safety and happiness of the Liberian nation and its people!

And that´s not all! With the investments this man Benoni Urey has made in Liberia which have elevated the living standards of most Liberians, Benoni Urey has the heart, will, intellect, political leadership excellence, and Godly conscience to build Liberians a great nation!!!

For example, which past or present Liberian politician – from Bai Gbala, to Charles Brumskine can show ANY investments as Benoni Urey´s bettering the Lives of Liberians, or such honesty, objectivity, and valor, in speaking truth to power??? NONE!!!: FROM BAI GBALA TO CHARLES BRUMSKINE…ALL THEY NO IS TALK TALK TALK…NO ACTION NOT TO TALK ABOUT RESULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are very much elated that Urey and the second most popular politician in Liberia – Prince Yormie Johnson are powers of the same coalition; and we hope in the following months, they shall form a national alliance with the Coalition of Democratic Change (CDC), and safe our country from those Unity Party coldwater legislators, and their fellow good for nothing elitists and return power to THE PEOPLE as decreed by the Liberian Constitution….Article 1 —All power is inherent in the People!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • K.Z; On the other hand, J.Nyumah Boakai is a best friend; of not only his own peers, but the ordinary struggling Liberian Citizens.Long before Politics, JNB was already working on diversifying the Liberian Economy; thus making it sustainable. J.Nyumah Boakai has the BLUE PRINT, to pull Liberia out of the current ECONOMIC RUINS; when he becomes President, Republic of Liberia. You bet! JNB is a truth FRIEND OF HIS FELLOW STRUGGLING LIBERIANS. B.U, is about money money money; for his own pockets. JNB have always made money for the struggling Liberians. You can’t trade him for anyone else. His age Translates To Expertise,Wisdom and Experience. No other Presidential Candidate is better qualified than JNB. Uncle Joe is our man; to be Liberia’s next PRESIDENT.

      • I will give some supports to your Candidate, Old Man Boakai. Yes, he indeed for those endorsing Tribalism and Division between Natives and CONQUAS. How can Liberians vote for division in a Nation that is hungry for UNITY? SORRY, the Old man is dangerous for Liberia. We want Peace not Division.

  3. Why Liberian still believe in the words competent, and qualified? When the words competent, and qualified have failed us during the eleven years leadership of President sirleaf, and VP Boakai who many Liberian said they were competent and qualified to leave the country.

  4. With Benoni Urey’s tons of stolen wealth in a nation drenched in poverty and the attendant misery, he had expected the Liberian people to flock to his Presidential Campaign like swarms of flies on decomposing body. But political expectation having failed to meet political reality, reactionary Urey has returned to being a clown. He castigates the senators for corrupt and unpopular, yet he has been courting Senator Prince Johnson of Nimba for a possible coalition: the same with Brumskine. They say Boakai is serving in a corrupt government, but they have never rejected anybody from corrupt government who join them. Brumskine’s running mate, Karnweah, was until recently FDA managing Director. Alex Cummings’ running mate, Sulunteh, was until recently, the UP administration Ambassador to Washington. And Urey has been turned down by several current and former officials of the administration to become his running mate. The point is, the leaders of the Congo Opposition are not morally and politically fit to rule Liberia. They are jealous of Boakai.

  5. Is Urey really speaking about health delivery system, safe drinking water, job creation? General Urey, stop the laughter. As head of Maritime bureau, can tell the Liberian people how Liberians your administration put on any vessel flying our flag?Ghanaians took over the vessels while young liberians were left here to fight ur war as you and your cronies educated your children abroad. Enjoy your loot and refrain from criticizing others for supporting Amb. Boakai. forget about discussing individuals, lets discuss the issue. you sold all maritime jobs to foreigners while you served as head of the maritime bureau from 1997-2003.

  6. Like Ottovon Bismark, Mr. Benoni Urey is the “right man in the right place at the right time.” We are tired of the failure of the Unity Party to deliver what it promised the Liberian people 12 years ago when it came to power. It promised Jobs but did not deliver Jobs. It promised Healthcare for the poor, it did not deliver healthcare. Ebola almost wiped our entire population had it not been for Urey and other patriotic Liberians who called on the international community to quickly intervene while Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, amidst Urey admonition to her to stop travelling and address the Ebola crisis in the country fell on deaf ears. Even now the Unity Party has not learn their lessons to improve the Healthcare it promised. Its officials including the president go abroad (United States, India, and South Africa) to get their clean bill of health, while the masses of our people are left with the ill-equipped JFK(just for killing) hospital to die daily. The Sirleaf’s government also promised improved education which it also failed to deliver. Our schools are all in dilapidated state with no chairs or benches for the students to sit on with unqualified teachers scattered in our schools around the country, while children of high officials of the unity party go abroad to school. The Unity party government promised development but gave us corruption, theft, graft and under-development. No we do not want the Unity Party anymore. We will vote for Benoni Urey, our next President. He is the only opposition leader that speaks truth to power. He has fearlessly spoken the truth in the interest of the masses of our people. He has the vision, love for our country and people. He will deliver. He is our man. Vote Urey to the Presidency and see a changed Liberia, an improved Liberia, in healthcare, jobs, education, agriculture, small manufacturing businesses that will help add value to our natural resources that will bring the needed foreign exchange that will help propel Liberia’s industrial development. “The voice of the People, is the Voice of God.” Vote Urey( The Farmer) as our next President of Liberia.

  7. Our presidential boxing contest is underway, and agile boxer Mr. Benoni Urey is throwing some jabs at the Legislature’s endorsers of perceived main contestant VP Joseph Boakai. Political savvy is more often than not measured by “messaging”; after all, politics hinges on successfully persuading others, and many may be strangers. It is far from a walk in the park. And in this speech Urey surely showed some maturity by not punching below the belt (intemperate personal attacks) of the well – liked Vice President

Instead, the ALP leader concentrated his heavy uppercuts at the captain steering the ship of state onto the rocks (EJS), including, most importantly, alarming the nation about the potential dangers of her rumoured shenanigans in the coming contests. Wow, what a stark contrast to the angry outbursts and insults reigned on the UP nominee by Counsellor Brumskine, the LP presidential candidate. It beats bitters whether the lawyer actually intended to convince, or alienate independent registered voters. Well, undeniably, Urey did some good for his cause by demonstrating essential Liberian values.

To close here, Folks, lest keep the politicking free from vicious verbal volleys: just persuade voters with implementable responsive manifestos. Mind you, the people are sovereign, and these elections are about what kind of Liberia they need, not so much about the candidates. Or is that too complex to ask of candidates and their core supporters who want to gap the widening divide, and heal the wounds of the past? We don’t think so!

  8. Boakai will make a far better president than you Urey, because all the Taylor’s national and international crooks are waiting for you to get up there to start the looting again.

I trust Boakai compare to the rest of you competing for the presidency.

  9. Mr. Urey truly is showing some leadership skills here. All he is saying is that Sovereignty rests or remains with the people. No other institution has the authority, be it the Senate or House of Representatives, to institute a new government. His message emphasizes that” power is inherent in the people. That all free governments are instituted by their authority..” and so it is meaningless for an institution to ascribe unto itself Rights reserved solely for the Sovereign people. That the people are the Creators of government(Not the Senate or House of Representatives). The government is the Created. The government is a subservient tool for the purpose of protecting the Life, Liberty and Property of the Sovereign People. It therefore follows that to win elections you have to go to the Sovereign People for their votes, support and acquiescence.

  10. What I like to know where did BU get it’s money to become business man? Of course, why don’t you just put CT back from the Hague with the stolen money. The supporters of BU are the supporters Charles Taylor. Well, how about the former wife of Charles Taylor, runner mate of G.W. I’m going to be tribalistic, why are we so stupid as country people, from the founding of this so-called Republic, Liberia, we have always voted for so called Congo people but they will never vote for the country people, though we the country people are in majority(ex. South Africa)

We (country People) have never been good enough to even love to there daughters, those who are old enough should know this. My late uncle had a PHD but could only be a director because he was a “country man”.

  11. Two things Liberians need to know about Benoni Urey: The first thing about Urey is that he hates Native Liberians with every fibre in his body. The second thing every Liberian must know about Urey is that he is one of the principal creators of their misery. When Moses Blah returned from the Hague after testifying against Charles Taylor, Urey went to local radio station and angrily declared that he had personally advised President Taylor not to promote Native Liberians to high positions in the government but since Taylor had not listened he was paying the price. In response, the then Secretary-General now Chairman of the UP, Wilmot Page went to the same radio station and severely rebuked Urey for his hateful remark against Native Liberians. This story was written by journalist Joaquin Sendolo and published by the Daily Observer. Mr. Urey’s promise of progress is also deceitful. In a speech at Cuttington University College and published by the Daily Observer, Mr. Urey’s promised to return the business of governing the country to the hall of the Masonic Society as it used to be in the darkest days of Congo iColonialism Mr. Urey’ is also one of the most corrupt Congoes in history. He and Taylor looted the Maritime Commission and set up a cellphone company with money. And using the power of government gave a monopoly to the company for several years which allowed to stifle competition and Rob the Liberian people. As Maritime Commissioner, Mr. Urey used $500, ,000 to renovate his mother’s house which be in turn leased to the Maritime Commission at quadrupled the price. A young man called Lamine, having gone to Urey farm to look for job, was murdered and hastily buried after being falsely accused of being a rogue. When the news of this heinous crime leaked, Urey lied to the Police that Lamine had drowned while taking bath in the swimming pool at night. Lamine’s poor parents were intimated by Urey to keep quiet. The point is, all the Congo Presidential candidates are hypocrites. And the Natives supporting them are either suffering from inferiority complex or are self-hating Natives.

  12. MY QUESTION TO THE LIBERIAN, WHO IS MORE LIABERIA THAN ANOTHER? WHOM DO WE REFERED TO AS CONGOES AND THE NATIVES? AND WHAT MAKES A MAN OR A WOMAN IN SWEET LIBERIA,NATIVE OR CONGO..

    • DG; we may call ourselves Liberians; but we are as POLARIZED as ever. You must be blind, to not know/see it. Majority of Liberians are indegenous people; who were in Liberia, long before the settler elements arrived and practically HIJACKED the entire Country-Liberia; as their own; exclusively. It’s not TRIBALISM, when a majority of Liberians pick one of their own; as President/Leader of the Republic of Liberia. Like it or not, we can not erase history. *Liberia was established by force of ARMS.
