“UP Is Our Common Enemy”, LP Rallies Opposition

Abraham Darius Dillon, acting chairman of the opposition Liberty Party (LP), has called for a united opposition whose overarching objective during the upcoming October polls is to ensure that the governing Unity Party (UP) gets no third term bid.

Dillon said the insensitivity of the ruling party, which has subjected the masses to massive suffering in the midst of abundant resources as a result of the party’s inability to govern well, should by now lead Liberians to see the UP as the “common enemy” to the opposition camp.

“If the Liberian people will decide or resolve not to give the presidency to the LP or to Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine, we stand ready to support any opposition in the run-off election against the ruling establishment. We will not focus on any opposition during this campaign in terms of criticizing them for the presidency,” Dillon said.

He said it is time for change and not continuity, which the Liberty Party is now poised to vigorously campaign against across the country to ensure that the UP does not retain a third term.

Dillon made the assertion yesterday when he appeared at the Center for the Exchange of Intellectual Opinion (CEIO) in Central Monrovia.

He emphasized the need for change that will be commensurate with the living conditions of the people and development in the country.

He said it was unfortunate for the UP presidential hopeful and vice president Joseph N. Boakai to waste his supporters, partisans and followers’ time for over six months just to select Speaker J. Emmanuel Nuquay as his vice running mate.

“UP Boakai has failed to prove anything to even in Lofa to convince the people to elect him as president of Liberia. His current budget is US$2.5 million, yet not a single program that Liberians can boast of from him across the country,” Dillon said.

He continued, “Cllr. Brumskine as a lawyer has a law firm in Liberia, which has been helpful to the people of Liberia, unlike VP Boakai, who is considered as an agriculturist, but do not have anything to show over the years, even as a common farmer.”

Dillon said VP Boakai has also failed to improve the living conditions of the Group of 77, a group the Constitution has given him the power to preside over across the country, adding that “VP Boakai has always placed something small in the budget for the group without any intention to improve their living condition.”

Chairman Dillon, who spent over seven years working at the Capitol Building with Sen. Jewel Howard-Taylor and former Speaker J. Alex Tyler, said he stands ready to unveil some information about Speaker Nuquay in his capacity as chairperson on Ways, Means and Finance in the Lower House.

“You people will hear startling news during the upcoming campaign on Nuquay when he served as chair on Ways, Means and Finance. I had to sign some papers for him whenever he wanted something to be done, especially at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning,” Dillon told the gathering in laughter.

Speaking of the Supreme Court’s decision, Dillon said it was unfortunate for some lawmakers to threaten justices with impeachment, referencing Article 73 of the Liberian Constitution, which states that “No Judicial official shall be summoned, arrested, detained prosecuted or tried civilly or criminally by or at the instance of any person or authority on account of judicial opinions rendered or expressed, judicial statements made and judicial acts done in the course of a trial in open court or in chambers, except for treason or other felonies, misdemeanor or breach of the peace.”

It continued, “Statements made and acts done by such officials in course of a judicial proceeding shall be privileged, and subject to the above qualification, no such statements made or acts done shall be admissible into evidence against them at any trial or proceeding.”

When contacted, the office of the Vice President said the allegation is not new for anyone to think that Dillon was in the right.

“We have much to do rather than addressing Dillon’s [rants] against the Honorable Vice President,” George Saah, director of communications, retorted via mobile phone.

  1. Darius Dillon is the reason Liberty Party will not be given a chance by the Liberian People. Liberty Party already knows they will take 5th or 6th place, and hence the reason they will not attack any other political party but the UP. The focus of any political party in an election is to let voters know what you can do differently than any other party, not just one party. So, Darius Dillon is naive and inexperienced when it comes to politics. Tell us, the voters, what you are going to do. Why is Liberty Party better than CDC? ALP? ANC? UP? MOVEE? How does LP expect to win the elections when Darius Dillon has stated that Liberty Party will pick sides? Charles Brumskine needs to tell this guy to shut up. How could you pick sides before campaigning even starts? Funny!

    • joe, for your information LP is the winning Party in this coming Election ok, no second Round votes .1st round is for Liberty Party,

      • ha ha ha!! If what you are saying is true, why is this clown Darius Dillon saying Liberty Party will support the opposition in the second round? LP must be the delusional party. LP will come 5th or 6th per the NEC.

    • Joe Siplay I guest you are protecting your stomach at the detriment of the majority. Anyway I don’t blame you. He(Joe Blow) who fills your stomach, controls your mind. Let the UP know that we are tired of messes education, economic hardships, unemployment, disunity, irrepresentation, etc.

  2. The rant that the VP do not have a farm in Liberia is not only ill conceived, but a blatant lied by a psychopath who is a high school dropped out and roam around trying to earn his living through the spread of lies and deceit. Liberians have to realize soon that Dillon is a sociopath who’s banging on the belief that Liberians are stupid people to elect Cllr Charles Brumskine as the next president of Liberia. Brumskine is only in opposition and criticizing the government because his cousin or sister in-chief Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf is leaving the presidency. Where has Brumskine been all along? Madam Sirleaf lobbied for him to secure employment with the Iron ore company ArcelorMittal Steel as a corporate lawyer and since then, the so called counselor has been very quiet on issues of national concern. If the current government should take any blame for corruption, the opposition is equally responsible because the legislature is made up of representative from various political parties with Brumskine Liberty Party and Weah’s CDC having the largest blocks of representation in this bicameral legislature.
Darius Dillion cannot provide one credible evidence of where the Vice President name has ever been associated with corrupt practices. His only crime is to work with Ellen and that’s the commitment of service he has made to serve his country in whatever capacity. In the Liberian constitution, the vice president role is to be a helper to the president when he/she is call upon. He doesn’t have a voting right in the legislature unless there’s a tied. He doesn’t nominate or appoint any member of the president’s executive leadership team. Dillion talks about the vice president’s budget, but what he doesn’t explain very well is the budget for the Vice President Office is not his take home salary, but monies appropriated for his office which includes salaries for him, staff in the office, travel expense both domestically and oversea, the Group of 77, etc. He doesn’t explain to anyone that the budget appropriated to the vice president office is not meant to implement development programs in Lofa or anywhere in the country like the budget apportioned for the president’s, Supreme Court or Office of the Speaker. Dillion is a con artist who’s playing on the ignorance of our people and their frustration to gain notoriety and attention. He should be ignored because he’s a sociopath. Cllr Charles Brumskine is a divisive candidate and the recent Supreme Court decision where he Brumskine knowingly and blatantly violated the law of Liberia (CoC) and his cousin Philip Banks bend the law in his favor is one of several reasons why he’ll never be elected president of Liberia.
Boakai on the contrary will be elected president despite him serving as vice president of Liberia over the years because he embodied the spirit of reconciliation, demonstrate the spirit of integrity, a humble servant who has been marginalized by this autocrat in-chief called Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf. All the power to govern Liberia has been taking over by Ellen who not only appoint her kids to key position of government with disregard for democratic tenet but has clearly also abused her power to ever consult with her vice president of matters of government, appointments of cabinet ministers, directors, etc. in this government. Boakai is a symbol of nationalism in Liberia who has clearly played his role as vice president considering our constitution.
Dillion rant is a continues desperation by the Liberty Party who see no perfect path to secure the presidency even though Brumskine cousin, Judge Banks abrogated the CoC to help him secure Karnwea’s nomination believing he can secure some votes from Nimba County. Boakai didn’t waste his partisans’ time, but he selected a candidate who he wanted to make sure is never in violation of any laws of Liberia including the Code of Conduct. Candidate Brumskine do not respect the laws of Liberia as a candidate and what make anyone to think that he’ll respect any law as president of Liberia? This decision by the Supreme Court only re-enforces the beliefs many Liberians have that laws in our country are only designed for certain group of people and not everyone. Abu Kamara though violated the law, but he’s given different treatment than Karnwea, who also broke the Code of Conduct and is allowed to run as Vice Standard Bearer on Liberty Party ticket.
If anything should make the opposition to come together, it is not Joseph Boakai, but President Sirleaf desired to be succeeded by Charles Brumskine. She’s clearly supporting Brumskine and this ruling of the Supreme Court has all the making of Ellen’s invisible hands. Dillion is a psychopath who’s a high school dropped out roaming as an opportunist to eat from the leftover of whoever can supply his daily bread. He’s not a loyalist, but an opportunist who also felt out of favor with Weah after his tricks were discovered and should never be taken seriously by anyone.

This is a video click of the Vice President’s farm in Liberia as evidence of his desire to transform the nation agriculture sector through share example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj4vAhs6w30. The video is a short clip of the VP farm and how this is not only setting example, but providing employment for many families.

  4. We will not relent until UP is retired. No third term for UP. Reject The Boakai-Nuquay Ticket (The Divisive Ticket). Welcome you all to a New breed of Positive Change- The Indefatigable Liberty Party.

  5. Abraham Darius Dillon is predicting the LP won’t be one of the two parties in the second round, if there will be any, and that the LP will support an opposition party. Shame on the opposition. The opposition had the opportunity to collaborate but failed to do so to protect their selfish interest. Everyone wants power and no one wants to support the party with the best agenda. Dillon is now telling the Liberian people that the LP will support any opposition party that goes in the second round with the UP despite not having a similar manifesto. Trust me, the second round will be a different ball game, the Liberian People won’t just vote any party because a defeated party has supported that party. Mr. Dillon, we eagerly await hearing your startling news you have on Speaker Nuquay when he served as chair on Ways, Means, and Finance. You have already admitted signing some papers, I guess questionable papers, for him whenever he wanted something to be done at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning. There’re many questions than answers in this your disclosure, however, let me reserve my comment until we can hear your revelation!

  6. Abraham Dillon has no political experience, neither does he have then competence in any sensible objectives, BUT his BIG, BIG Talk. Abraham Dillon, you want to galvanize the opposition parties to unseat UP, WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO OFFER THE LIBERIAN PEOPLE??? You have nothing to offer the Liberian people, but BIG
    SHOW and BLUFF!
    UP: ONE ROUND!!
