Following a thorough vetting process, the Elections Committee of the Sports Writers Association (SWAL) has cleared the following individuals for participation in the union’s pending elections scheduled for Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Press Union of Liberia headquarters on Clay Street in Monrovia.
According to a press release issued in Monrovia Wednesday, those cleared to contest the elections are, Kolubah Zayzay and Varmah Kamara for the position of President while Molley Trogen Kiazolu and Michael Weah have been cleared to contest the Vice President position.
Others certified by the elections committee are Julius Konton and Edwin Dolo for the position of Secretary General while Success Minor and Augustus Doe will contest the Assistant Secretary General position.
The Elections Commission also said that Naomi Tappia has been cleared to run for the position of Financial Secretary while Mulbah Reeves will contest the Chaplain position.
The SWAL elections committee has meanwhile declared campaign finally open and will close at midnight, Friday, December 14, 2018. Publication of the list of qualified eligible voters has already been completed.
The release also says SWAL’s debate for the elections will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 2pm-6pm.
Meanwhile, the SWAL Elections Committee is urging qualified candidates to immediately forward the name of one person as their duly assigned monitor or observer at the polls to facilitate accreditation. Voting begins at 9am and ends at 4pm followed immediately be counting of ballots and announcement of results.
The Elections Commission is calling on all journalists particularly qualified candidates to observe the timetable and the elections guidelines issued recently as there will be strict adherence to these set rules and regulations, the release signed SWAL Election Committee Chairman Ernest K. McCay said yesterday.
