The chairperson of the grand Bassa county branch of the civil society council, Madam Martha C. Treh is warning individuals and members of organizations in the constant habit of using the name of the council to accomplish their ‘’selfish aims’’ to desist with immediate effect.
Speaking to the daily observer on Tuesday Madam Treh described the act as illegal and that it brings the council under ridicule.
She said, in accordance with our guidelines and constitution all advocacies are non-political, non-governmental and non-profit making.
She clarified that the council has a chairperson, who is the only spokesperson and that other executive members can speak on behalf of the council when mandated.
‘’Any member organization and individual caught engaging in political activities against the policies of the council will be terminated from the council’’ She noted with emphasis.
She told member organizations that while it is their right to affiliate with any group at their wills they should not drag the council into political activities.
Madam Treh pointed out that her warning comes in the wake of her several observations that some civil society organizations, individuals and local non-governmental organizations are in the constant habit of using the banner of the council to solicit or transact businesses, something she said has the propensity to destroy the good policies and image of the council.
The council was established some 14 years and comprise of various local civil society organizations in the county coordinating affairs and it aims at to build capacity of three trainings in various disciplines(sectors) like agriculture, peace building and promote women rights, child protection to eradicate mob justice for a free and lawful society.
