Wins FA Cup
Tapha Manneh secured his record fifth FA Cup final win after LISCR FC comprehensively defeated ELWA United 3-0 yesterday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium to complete its double champions status in the 2016/2017 Liberia Football Association National League. Midfielder Stephen Seameh slotted home the opener in the 23rd minute after perfectly sending in a rebound with a brilliant right-foot strike from inside the penalty area, before forward Edward Ledlum came off the bench to double the Shipping Boys’ lead midway through the second half. With still more time left to play in the second half, Sekou Sherriff finally secured the victory for coach Manneh in the 77th minute after scoring his fourth free kick in the knockout. LISCR got the free kick after midfielder Allen Njie was brought down right at the edge of the box.
LISCR, outstanding throughout, kept its focus of winning the knockout title having outlined the competition as its major target of the season. Despite drawing their two previous meetings in the championship, ELWA United proved to be a weaker opponent with less attempts on goal. The team looked satisfied with its automatic qualification to represent Liberia at the CAF Confederation Cup as runners-up of the FA Cup due to LISCR winning the championship. That makes the team Liberia’s representative at next year CAF Champions League.
Manneh and his substitute players jumped with joy at the final whistle, having achieved such a milestone for the Shipping Boys and the Liberian league – his record fifth FA Cup title out of seven finals.
