After advancing to the knockout of the Montserrado County Community playoffs on Thursday, September 7, the U-17 Cece United Football Academy over the weekend booked their slot in the semi-finals of the playoffs after demolishing Villa FC 6-0 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
The team narrowly reached the last 16 on a goal advantage after a disappointing goalless draw with SYP FC, but Saturday’s knockout match was easy to ride for the Academy side.
United recovered from its disappointing draw in its final group stage match after midfielder Prince Sannah netted a brace followed by Barent Karr in the first half to send the Saye Town based team for the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Villa FC tried to reduce their goal deficit in the second half by making several attempts on target but was unable to recover from the three goals.
However, United put out one of their best performances so far after slotting home additional three goals in the second half to finally demolish Villa FC 6-0.
James Toure extended the Academy side’s lead to four before teammates Tony Shilley and Christian Dugbeh who was making his debut closed the goal scoring chart.
The Academy club will find out who they will face in the last eight of the community league playoffs draw expected to be out on Wednesday.
