ANC political leader , Alexander B. Cummings

The standard bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander B. Cummings, has told a large gathering in Greenville, Sinoe County that southeastern counties will no longer be marginalized if they elect him president. Mr. Cummings said bad roads and lack of basic infrastructure, including electricity and pipe-borne water in the southeast, are enough to prove the marginalization of the region. The ANC political leader said it is obvious that the country’s 170 years of independence does not match her development; therefore, “only change can bring development and create jobs.”

Speaking on Wednesday night in Touh Community Hall, Butaw Junction, and in Greenville City Hall, both in District #1, he called on partisans and sympathizers to vote for Mr. B. Geplaye Nyensuah, a representative aspirant for the Butaw District #1 seat in the House. Mr. Nyensuah is contesting against Rep. Jefferson Kanmoh, who is seeking his third term. Geplaye is the junior brother of former Deputy Health Minister for Epidemics, Tolbert Nyensuah.

“If we keep electing the same people our lives won’t change…if you want your life to change, for a better road, good health facilities and schools, you have to elect a new president and vice president for change, and also representative aspirant Nyensuah,” Cummings said. “Elect us to stop the marginalization for better lives…because you deserve a better Liberia.”

The gathering recited after Mr. Cummings: “I believe in myself, I believe in Liberia, I believe we deserve a better Liberia, a better Butaw, I believe if we work together, work harder and elect different leaders we can have a better Butaw and Liberia.”

Also, during the formal program marking the ANC District #1 rally and a special welcome of its standard bearer to Sinoe County, Greenville City Mayor Tito Seton thanked the people of the county for waiting for about nine hours for the arrival of the ANC and its standard bearer, who entered Greenville by 9:31pm. Mr. Seton said the road condition, which delayed the ANC delegates, is a testimony of their marginalization, and urged the ANC that if elected it must prioritize the southeast to improve the lives of the people. “The roads are very bad and we hope as a son of the southeast if elected you will come to our help,” Seton said.

Earlier, on Thursday morning, the United Grebo Association in Sinoe County presented kola nuts, pepper and a white chicken in a brief welcome ceremony. Mr. Cummings and his wife, Teresa, participated in the breaking and eating of the kola.

The supervising principal of Sinoe County, Cheslie Mennoh, presented a statement to the ANC standard bearer asking for the establishment of a library, a laboratory and more schools. Mr. Moses Koffa, Speaking on behalf of the ANC Youth Movement in Sinoe County, asked the ANC to help enhance their efforts in the October 10 campaign and erect youth and technical centers.

  1. For 170 years, our system of governance remains corrupt and broken, elections not withstanding. By stating that electing him represents change, Cummings is not telling the truth. Cummings is contradicting the Holy Bible which states “A corrupt tree cannot bear good fruits” because for 170 years Liberians have elected new politicians in the same old corrupt system and gotten the same results; endemic corruption, ritualistic killings and poverty. Cummings knows or should have known the truth that corruption in Liberia is legalized by the constitution and the corrupt and broken system of governance. Examples: There are bad roads because there are insufficient funds allocated for roads. There are insufficient funds because once elected in the corrupt system, the current flawed constitution allows officials to set their own salaries and benefits leaving inadequate funds for roands, education, health. With such a legal system in place, Cummings is not telling the truth when he says electing him within a corrupt system will bring change. We have done that for 170 years. The Holy Bible disagrees with Cummings: ” Acorrupt treecannot bring forth good frutis.

    • Torli Krua, I am not s religious scholar, but I do go to church and believed in the Bible. I agree with you saying about Cummings 100%. This guy is the most insincere candidate in this race with all the platitudes he’s preaching around. Cummings want to continue to live in the glory he had when he worked for Coco Cola. This man returned to Liberia a fortnight ago, established a foundation that’s barely two years old, donated few old generators, used books, build a computer lab that’s riddled with old computers and he’s passing around the country he barely know promising to build roads, clinics and schools? Where is the money coming from? He’s campaigning as an agent of change, but his vice standard bearer in person of Jeremiah Solunteh worked in the Ellen administration from inceptions in various high profile ministerial positions and lastly a diplomatic mission in Washington DC. What impact did this guy make in the lives of Liberians for Cummings to be heralding his ticket as a change ticket and he’ll bring change?

I don’t like to use the word “hate,” but politicians who will lied and say anything to get them elected and realized that they’re not able to accomplish any of the things they talked about should be condemned. Do Cummings know how much it cost to pave one mile of road with asphalt? The country resources are in depletion and if we want pave roads, we’ll have to take loans because the country’s capacity to generate enough revenue to undertake meaningful infrastructure development like roads cannot match these expenditures. Like you rightly said, campaign and inform the people that things are difficult and that Liberia corruption is not the making of government, but a system that’s institutionalized and need to be fought vigorously. But of course, no politician will campaign with such message because they’ll be considered as weak.

Liberia problem is ourselves and blaming any one party is a mistake because Cummings is not going to bring angels from heaven to help him govern; and by his vice presidential candidate selection, that should be an example. Stop the lies and be honest with the people. If they like you, your message of honesty, they’ll elect you, period. REJECT HIM BECAUSE HE’S LYING.

  2. I will vote the the candidate that tells me;
    1. Liberia is a mess and the road ahead is going to be very rough, therefore, my people get ready for a rude awakening.
    2. I will lead by example and I will give power to the people. But we should be ready to bear the consequences of our actions.
    2. I will cut down waste in every sector, I will drive my personal vehicle to work and if you want any position in our government you should own your personal vehicle or be willing to drive the vehicle we provide you for work purposes only.
    3. I will cut down the size of our military and our military men and women will be train in agriculture, engineering etc.
    To be continue….

  3. Mr. Henry Freeman, do you really want Mr. Cummings to show the money? How many
of the other candidates have do so; even including who have stealing money from the
Liberian people? Have they showed the money?

Mr. Alexander B. Cummings is speaking from his plans my man! At the same time, he is
telling and pointing out after what the Liberian people should look for and hold his
    administration accountable.

It is also very ludicrous for Abel James to list the achievements and contributions of
Mr. Cummings and yet frown on him. I wonder if he forgot to also list the contributions
of all other candidates who have been in Liberia for all these years including stealing from
the Liberian people- corruption? Yet, he frown on Cummings’ achievements and contributions
in a very short space of time. But he fails to properly rationalize that, if Mr. Cummings is
able to achieve and contribute those in a very short space of time he listed, does it not
sound very good reason to trust him (Cummings), that he will do more on longer time
frame if he is elected President of Liberia?

But, notwithstanding these, I respect you are entitled to your opinion, however the Liberian
people can not twisted with fainted opinion as yours. They know the truth! There were
times in the matter of elections in Liberia people used to say, well there is no alternative
but today there is an alternative, and I think that they are going to redeem themselves.

    • P.T; Alex C; is taking about doing things that require money. Lots of MONEY! Liberia is broke. Very broke! Where is the MONEY coming from? No matter who Liberia’s next President shall be, the task ahead will not be easy.

  6. Alexander Cummings is really a very DISHONEST GUY! He promises building bridges where there are no creeks nor rivers! He promises to change everything overnight. But says he does not want a war crimes court established for Liberia. How can anyone or presidential aspirant who talks about changing everything overnight resist a war crimes court for Liberia an institution which shall actually bring change and peace to Liberia????
