Senate to Review US$20k Bribery Accusation

Senate Pro-Tempore Albert T Chie

The Secretary-General of the Liberian Senate, J. Nanborlor Sengbeh, has been requested by the Leadership of the Senate to review and probe an accusation of bribery levied against some Senators, by a staffer in the office of Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence.

According to a release from the Press Bureau of the Senate, Sengbeh is requested to probe statement made by  Daniel Sando,  the Administrative Assistant in the office of the chair of the Senate Committee on Rules, Order, and Administration, in which he accused Senators of receiving the amount of US$20,000.00 each to authorize the printing of a new family of banknotes in the amount of LD48,734,000.00.

“The Senate Secretary report will determine whether additional sanctions are justified to be imposed against Sando,” the release added. “Under the laws of Liberia, a bribe is a serious crime, and the burden of proof lies on the shoulder of the accuser.”

It can be recalled that Sando who is also an executive member of the Liberty Party of which Senator Lawrence serves as a political leader, recently accused Senators who signed a resolution to authorize the printing of a new family of banknotes, of doing so after pecuniary benefit of US$20,000.00 each as an inducement.

A day later, Senator Lawrence who is also the current rotational chair of the Collaborating Political Parties, slapped her Administrative Assistant with a month’s suspension without pay.

Accepting his boss’s action,  Sando remains adamant that he has no regret and stands by his statement.

Meanwhile,  the release said,  the Liberian Senate has welcomed the decision taken by Sena. Lawrence suspends Sando for  “falsely accused members of the Senate of taking a bribe to sign a resolution for the printing of a family of new banknotes.”

The release furthered that while the Senate encourages free speech and freedom of the press as provided for under Article 15 of the 1986 Constitution, it however comes with responsibility.

It added that the Secretary General’s mandate from the Senate Leadership through Pro-Tempore Albert T Chie is to accord Sando all due process during his interaction with him and report back to that body after the Easter break.

  1. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !
So what is actually funny this time in that God Forsaken Country to laugh at ?
Here’s what is funny, but not that strange that it is actually happening in the Senate and that forsaken country.
The Daily Observer September 16, 2019, here’s what happened: ” The Capitol Building’s office of Senator Albert T. Chie, President Pro-Tempore was on Thursday September 12, a place of tension following Senator Chie’s alleged refusal to allow a court Sheriff that was accompanied by two officers of Liberia National Police(LNP) from arresting Nanborlor Sengbeh”.
It was in this very article of September 16, 2019 that Senator Chie’s allegedly give out his call card to the Sheriff with instructions for the judge that wanted the living body of Mr. Sengbeh brought to the Court. Instead Senator Chie was not about to allow that to happen.
But why was the Senate Secretary General, Mr. Sengbeh wanted for by the Court ?
Daily Observer February 9, 2021, Senate Secretary Mr. Nanborlor Sengbeh who is involved in a theft of property case between Armstrong and the Senate Secretary General.
The guy who himself is in Court for theft of property, the guy who was actually protected by Albert Chie, the Pro-temp, has been requested by the leadership of the Senate that the Secretary General of the Senate, the same Mr. Nanborlor Sengbeh to review and to probe the accusation of bribery against some Senators.
The accused is already suspended without pay, and there are talks to teach the accused some lessons. And the leadership of the Senate still maintained that the accused will be given his due process. An investigation headed by a guy who himself is in Court charged for theft of property, and being protected by the bosses of the Senate, he is the person to accord the due process ?
The day of reckoning is fast approaching, and in the Liberian language, your will know who born dog again.
But one thing though, why would the accused say such thing about some Senators receiving 20K to pass a resolution ? Why would he say such thing. The for that question is found in the promised made to the staffers of the Senate that they will received some of their pays owed them. Perhaps, the accused saw the resolution passed in the Senate, and the Central Bank was very happy to get what they were asking for. The accused was very much hoping that the staffers would get something that was owned to them, and was actually promised to them, which was their legal salaries. But after few weeks of waiting and watching some Senators counting money, handing money, right after the resolution was passed, it was no brainer for the accused. They as staffers have been lied to again.
The question is where did the alleged money to pay some Senators come from ? Certainly, the Finance Minister, Samuel Tweah hands are cleaned on this one. The only other source is the Central Bank of Liberia. The Bank had to have that money. Especially so when the managers of the Central Bank are all displaced managers. They are Central Bank managers that country then they would be in countries other countries. That makes them displaced managers with less qualifications. Paying some people just to approve the policy, will make one always look good. Policy wise, that makes sense.
So the accused young man says, he stands by every words. The scary thing is, if he backs it up with supporting documents. But then again, it won’t mean a damned thing in that God Forsaken Country.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !
He’s on his own in fighting his political battles in the Senate.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ! Poor Guy.
