The Senate yesterday evening concurred with the House of Representatives to pass the 2016/2017 National Fiscal Budget in the amount of US$600, 203, 675 for the period which should have begun July 1, 2016 and end June 30, 2017.
Reading the statement yesterday at his Capitol Building office, Pro Temp Armah Jallah said the Senate is confident that the passage of the budget will enable the government to carry out development projects.
“After tedious deliberations by the Senate in its Extraordinary Session, it concurred with the House of Representatives for the passage of the budget,” he said.
The statement did not, however, give any breakdown on which area received the highest amount, or whether there were increments for civil servants or Legislators.
Meanwhile, Pro Temp Jallah clarified that Senator Albert Chie still maintains his chairmanship of the Committee on Lands, Mines, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources. He is also co-chair on the Transport Committee, and a member of Public Works and Rural Development.
