Representative Ricks Toweh of Nimba County Electoral District # 6 has joined the opposition Liberty Party (LP).
Rep. Toweh made the declaration in Saclapea City over the weekend when the standard bearer of Liberty Party, Cllr. Charles Brumskine, chose Mr. Harrison Kanwea as his presidential running mate for the October elections.
Rep. Toweh in his remarks said the Liberty Party has been asking him to join the party as far back as 2005, before he got into politics.
“Now that I have tested politics, I think it is now time that I join the Liberty Party and am therefore pledging my support to the party along with my supporters,” he said.
Meanwhile, his critics say that Toweh joining the Liberty Party would not make a difference on the county’s political landscape, as he is unpopular in his district and the county at large.
Many District # 6 citizens are demanding proof of Toweh’s impact in their district, especially when it comes to spending the funds allotted for the district from the 53rd Legislature of Liberia.
In his remarks, Rep. Toweh boasted of joining the party with about 500 supporters, a number critics are doubtful of.
It may be recalled that Rep. Ricks Toweh ran on the ticket of the now defunct National Union of Democratic Progress of Senator Prince Johnson. After the party fell apart, Rep. Toweh’s status in terms of party connections, remained in limbo until Saturday, March 18, 2017, when he finally found a political home in the LP.
