Prez Sirleaf off to the USA


President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has left the country for an official visit to Washington, D.C., United States of America, an Executive Mansion release has confirmed.

According to the release, the President, who will be away until April 21, is responding to an invitation extended by the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, to participate in discussions with international partners on the status of the containment of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) and plans for post-Ebola reconstruction of the three worst Ebola affected countries – Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Presidents Alpha Conde of Guinea and Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone will also participate in the discussions.

During President Sirleaf’s absence from the country, the Minister of National Defense, Brownie J. Samukai, Jr. will serve as Acting Chairman of the Cabinet in consultation with the Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai, the release said.
