President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is expected to deliver a special nationwide address today, November 19, on issues related to the national economy, a press release from the Ministry of Information, Culture Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) yesterday said. The President’s address is expected to “reset public expectations for the remaining years of [her] administration” and also “outline key projects and deliverables to be undertaken” in the same vein.

Recently, upon her return from official visits to India and the People’s Republic of China, the President announced that she would deliver a major address to the nation. “I will be speaking to the nation with much more details on the visits and the agreed commitments. It is the responsibility of every citizen to do his or her part in the forward march of the country,” President Sirleaf said. However, the address at the time was suspended at the last minute.

This time, it will be delivered before a live audience and a guest list of an unprecedented magnitude. These include leaders of all branches of government, the Diplomatic Corps, leaders of various private sector organizations, of religious and educational institutions, Civil Society, youth, women, even the Yanna Boys and the Pem-pem riders’ leaders, among others.

The address will be delivered at 4:30 p.m. from the C. Cecil Dennis Auditorium at the Foreign Ministry, the press release said, and invited guests are expected to be seated by 4:00 p.m.

A guest list of such magnitude is typically reserved for events such as President’s annual address to the joint session of the National Legislature, or the Independence Day official celebration. However, the size of the Cecil Dennis Auditorium may not be able to accommodate all of those invited. That being said, today’s address is expected to be broadcast on radio and television, although the Foreign Ministry’s list of invited guests did not include the Press Union of Liberia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is cordially inviting the following:

The Vice President
The Speaker and Heads of Statutory Committee of the House of
Representatives
His Honor, The Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court of Liberia
