President Weah to Build New Waterside Market Structure

— Inaugurates Street Lights Friday

Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, Smith Toby has announced that President George M. Weah has completed all arrangements for a $100,000 Capacity Market in West point.

Mr. Toby said two market structures are expected to be built to give marketers the space to sell their goods and will be implemented by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE).

“The President is building one market structure in Waterside and another one in West Point. While the President is concerned about agriculture and road connectivity, market structures continue to be erected across the country,” he added.

Mr. Toby made the assertion yesterday during the regular “Presidential Update” held at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia where he disclosed that the President remains more concerned about the marketers, especially the space for doing business.

Mr. Toby said due to the high interest placed on the building of these structures, President Weah has also urged the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment to ensure that the two Projects are completed within 90 days.

He added that the recent groundbreaking for market structures in Bong and Nimba counties remain on course and will provide updates shortly to the public.

Mr. Toby has also disclosed that President Weah will this Friday, February 5, 2021, inaugurate the street lights.

It can be recalled that President Weah in October 2020 launched the street lights project intended to provide street lights from ELWA junction to Broad Street and on Bushrod Island.

“With the completion of this project, vehicles can now drive from ELWA junction to Broad Street and Broad Street to Bushrod Island without headlight. The President is elated about this project,” Mr. Toby indicated.

Mr. Toby said the delay in the completion of the project was due to the procurement process and the shipment as well. The project was expected to be completed and dedicated on November 29, 2020. Meanwhile, President Weah is expected to begin his county tour on February 12, 2021, through Margibi, Bong, and the rest of the counties, the Executive Mansion disclosed.
