President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has sent a message of congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of France on the occasion marking their 227th National Day.
July 14 commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution with the storming of the Bastille on this day in 1789, an important event in Paris, in a violent revolution that had begun two days earlier, as well as the Fête de la Fédération, which celebrated the unity of the French people on July 14, 1790.
According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry release, in her message to President François Gérard Hollande, President Sirleaf extended warmest felicitations and sincere best wishes to the Government and people of France on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia.
She reflected on the principle of freedom, which postulates that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and civil liberties.
President Sirleaf hoped that as France celebrates this monumental anniversary, the people of France will be endowed with renewed peace and prosperity and that the excellent relations already subsisting between Liberia and France will continue to flourish, the release stated.
