President Sirleaf Applauds Denmark


President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has, on behalf of the Government and people of Liberia and in her own name, extended heartfelt greetings to Queen Margrethe II and the people of Denmark on the occasion of its Constitution Day.

Constitution Day, observed annually on June 5, commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Danish Constitution of 1849, which established Denmark as a constitutional monarchy, and honors the Constitution of 1953, which was adopted on the same date.

According to a Foreign Affairs Ministry release, President Sirleaf, “acknowledged with satisfaction, the rewarding relations our two nations and peoples continue to enjoy, particularly the positive impacts resulting from our partnership to attain the Millennium Development Goals, which advocated gender equality and women’s empowerment by the year 2015.”

President Sirleaf further told the Danish Queen that as both nations strive to fully implement the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, Liberia looks forward to deepening collaboration in many spheres and exploring new areas of cooperation, mainly in the private sector.”
