The National Youth Congress of the governing ruling Unity Party (UP) has called on political commentators, especially those who are calling for the resignation of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, to retract their statement and wait for 2017, because she will not resigned.
According to a release signed by Amos Y. Bartu, Jr., general secretary of the National Youth Congress of the Unity Party, some members of the party’s attention has been drawn to the recent statement by some unscrupulous, unpatriotic elements calling on President Sirleaf to immediately step down.
Against this backdrop, “We the National Youth Congress of the Unity Party want unequivocally to condemn such a statement as baseless, reckless and without substance, but intended to corrupt the minds of the citizenry of this country.”
They maintained that the calling of the President resignation is not in the best interest of our democracy and as such, [no peace loving Liberian can embrace this idea, especially during this time of ours, when we are at war against this deadly Ebola epidemic].
“Let me . . . inform this body that Madam Sirleaf is the best alternative who can steer our ship of state,” the release stated.
Therefore it is incumbent on every Liberians to rally around her as she leads the fight against this deadly Ebola virus.
The release further disclosed that the Ellen-led government is the only government that goes beyond party line by including opposition parties and people from all walks of life.
