Authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) said they have arrested several hard core armed robbers including notorious James Logan, alias Survivor Drag and James Harris, alias CEO among others.
The arrests of the suspects, according to an LNP bulletin, took place in Monrovia and other parts of the country as part of police operations geared towards ridding various communities of suspected criminals, among them armed robbers.
The police said their action was due to various mechanisms they put into place in recent weeks to bring the robbers under the control of the law and restore sanity in those communities where the robbers have been harassing peaceful residents.
Accordingly, the LNP said the suspected robbers are mostly youths between the ages of 18 and 25, who have reportedly been using deadly weapons to rob their victims.
The police indicated that some of its officers from the Anti-Robbery Unit were shot at by suspected robbers, while seemingly escaping the crime scenes in central Monrovia.
The LNP, in a statement over the weekend, therefore stressed that they will not relent in its drive to protect life and properties of peaceful citizens.
Meanwhile, the LNP has warned the public that it will not tolerate anyone firing at the police who are in the discharge of their routines, “because we will equally respond in such manner and form,” the LNP said in a release.
They said, over the last two months, suspected robbers have victimized peaceful residents to include businessman Sam Gibson, Camille Krystal, Alexander Gousuah, Sabara Williams, and Abdu K. Jalloh in Monrovia with several properties valued at over US$14K reportedly carted off by the robbers.
