Sr. Female Pro also find themselves in a difficult position as they are set to face tough sides in their remaining games

The 2020/21 women’s division league season is gearing up for a grand climax, but there is still a shroud of mystery as to how the league table will look at the end of the campaign.

As for the top of the table, Determine Girls have maintained the spot since the start of the season and are in better form to climax the season in the position with just one point needed to confirm them as champions for the first time ever.

Their title celebration has been delayed twice as they needed a win in their previous match against Ambassadors that ended 1-1 on Saturday at the Nancy B. Doe Stadium in Kakata, Margibi.

At least a draw against Blanco on Saturday, April 17, at the Tusa Field in Gardnersvile will seal their historic title.

Blanco, as beneficiaries of three points deduction from Earth Angels, coupled with their winning streak from their previous three games, have managed to secure second place with six points adrift defending champions Earth Angels, who are still focused on ending the season in the second position. Star player Agatha Nimene has been a key player in the team’s progress, scoring 10 goals in her last two games-totaling 21 league goals. A win for them on Saturday will delay Determine Girls’ title celebration for the third time.

Earth Angels’ hope of retaining their title was dashed following their four points deduction for featuring ineligible players that earlier dropped them to the 4th position.

Despite the points deduction, the defending champions continue to fight on with an 8-0 win in their previous match against Island Queens at Tusa Field. Thanks to reigning MVP Angeline Kieh who scored five goals to set the pace for a tight golden boot race in the closing stages of the league season. Kieh is now leveled with Agatha on 21 goals apiece and two goals Guinean International Hawa Conteh of Determine Girls.

Ambassadors and World Girls are also battling their way through to seal a top spot before the league comes to a close.

With both teams not collecting more than two points from their last two games, it’s just three points that separate two teams, with Ambassadors seated in the 4th position with 20 points from 13 games. If things remain constant from the next two games, who finish 4th will be decided when both teams face each other in their final fixture.

World Girls fought from two goals down over the weekend to settle to a 2-2 draw against Hippo at the Unification Town Sports Pitch to increase their points to 17 from 13 games.

It is also worth saying; they sat in the relegation zone for weeks after collecting four points from four games, but are now three points above relegation.

Although both World Girls and Ambassadors are a few points above relegation, losing their remaining games shouldn’t be an option.

Relegation Battle

With Island Queens’ relegation already confirmed, the fight is now between Hippo, Sr. Female Pro, and Pro Sisters that are battling to avoid being among the next two to be relegated.

With just a point above relegation, Hippo over the weekend bottled their two goals lead that prevented them from getting all three points against World Girls and dented their chances of surviving relegation.

Hippo will now have to win their last two games and hope that Sr. Female Professionals don’t collect more than six points from their last three games.

Hippo’s inability to win crucial home games hugely contributed to their current status on the league table and could lead them to play in the lower women’s division next season.

Sr. Female Pro on the other hand dropped into the relegation zone following a four-point deduction for fielding illegible players in two games. They still went on to win their previous games, thus restoring their hope of staying in the top-flight league.

They now need to collect at least seven points from their last three games if they ought to play in the top-tier league next season. Things could easier for them if Hippo fails to collect the needed points from their last two fixtures, however, Sr, Female Pro also find themselves in a difficult position as they are set to face tough sides in their remaining games.

Obliviously, Pro Sister will be in the conversation when relegation is being discussed. They hold the second-worst defensive record in the league, with 35 goals conceded so far. With their next two fixtures against top sides, Pro Sisters are next in line to be relegated at the end of the season.
