It has been a fantastic league season in the Women’s football category of the 2020/21 Orange National League with Determine Girls winning the league title— their first-ever.
We are just two games away from closing this year’s campaign with several awards up for grasps and among them is the most prestigious award (Most Valuable Players).
A number of players had an incredible 2020/21 season, but these five players performance during the season had a cut above the rest.
Summarily, let’s look at the five favorites to win this year’s Women’s Division MVP Award.
#1 Bontou Sylla – Determine Girls
Determine made no mistake by going for the Guinean international after her brilliant performance against the Liberia women’s national team in an international friendly on November 24, 2019 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium.
The 20-year-old sensation was the best player on her team, helping them win their first-ever league title despite being a debutant.
The Guinean forward was brought on board to assist Paulinho Agbostu who had shouldered the responsibility of the team’s attack for the past season, but her addition to the team was more than a help to Paulinho as she has become the star player not just on her team, but in the league, challenging notable names in the women’s division. She recorded 15 goals and 19 assists in 15 league games.
#2 Angeline Kieh- Earth Angels
The reigning MVP had a difficult start of the season after the departure of several key players from the team. Her chances of becoming a contender for the MVP award were slim, but she did not give up.
In the absence of good player to make a good team, Angeline became a utility player on her team by playing both attacking and defensive roles.
Not only did she play a leadership role during Earth Angels’ crisis period, she has risen to the the occasion to help her team move to the third position on the log after the signing of additional players to beef up the squad. She now sits atop of the highest goal scorers chat with 25 goals from 11 games.
#3 Agatha Nimene – Blanco
Blanco FC have allowed another season to slip away without winning the league title despite having a squad that deserves to win the league.
Throughout their disappointing season, Agatha’s performance didn’t go unnoticed. The 20-year-old single-handily won some crucial games for Blanco, scoring spectacular goals from free-kicks. With two games to go, she still has the chance to challenge Angeline for the golden boot. She has recorded 22 goals and 9 assists in 13 games.
#4 Hawa Conteh – Determine Girls
Another player on the list is Determine Girls’ striker. Like Bountou, Hawa had a brilliant season as a debutant in the Liberian league.
Perhaps opposing defenders felt intimidated about her presence in the league after scoring a hat-trick against Liberia in the 3-3 international friendly November 24, 2019.
The Guinean striker had a firing start, scoring 15 goals in six league games. At this point, no one ever thought about her losing the golden boot which she has.
Despite losing the golden boot award, Hawa’s overall performance had a huge impact on Determine Girls’ historic title triumph. She recorded 23 goals in 15 games.
#5 Wuyah Mohai – Ambassadors FC
Ambassadors FC had a decent season and currently find themselves in a safe position for next season.
Sierra Leone international Wuyah played a huge role in the team’s overall season performance. She was consistent in front of goal and recorded 15 goals in league games.
Like other outstanding players, Wuyah’s presence was always felt on the field during her team’s games and her ball control, teamwork, and goal-scoring abilities do deserve recognition.
