The chairman of the newly formed Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP), Moses Y. Kollie, has termed it a dream-come-true for his party to have a political heavyweight like the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Alex Tyler, join its ranks. “This is a big fish that the LPDP has caught and we are grateful for this day,” he said.

He noted that the party is forever willing to collaborate with others as this is the only way the ruling party will have no chance of getting victory in the 2017 elections.

“Our arms are open to collaborate with people who have the same dream and aspiration of the LPDP. We are willing to collaborate with everyone.

“The only party the LPDP is never willing to work with is the UP. If we do we will be compromising what we stand for and this we are not willing to do,” he said.

Tyler’s declaration of membership was also graced by stalwarts of other political parties such as the All Liberian Party (ALP), the National Patriotic Party as well as scores of members of the National Legislature.

Senator Sando Johnson of the NPP spoke on behalf of his party. He said the NPP is willing to collaborate with the LPDP to ensure that the UP is defeated massively in 2017.

He lauded the Speaker for such a bold decision which he said is in the right direction. This sentiment was also echoed by former Senator Theodore Mono, chairman of the ALP. Momo is also a former stalwart of the UP.

Speaker Tyler recently resigned from the UP, where he served as an executive member, due to what he termed as “policy differences.” His resignation was greeted with mixed reactions with pundits describing it as a big blow to the UP.

He termed the LPDP as Liberia’s hope and the root to the country’s development.

According to him, the LPDP has what it takes to move the Liberian state to higher heights, looking at its vision and the caliber of people that are leading the party.

Officially declaring his membership for the party at a well attended ceremony held at the LPDP headquarters in Monrovia, Speaker Tyler said “The LPDP is Liberia’s hope and the prosperity for Liberians.”

He further said, “And so, executives of the LPDP and partisans of this great party, I hereby submit this application for membership and pray that you will accept me as a humble member of your party. I want to assure you that I believe in your party’s rightful national direction and vision and I promise to do all that is in my ability to fulfill them.”

He said with the LPDP, the time is right to take Liberia to where it belongs, noting that his passion for Liberia’s development and progress is so great.

Since leaving the UP, the House Speaker said, the ceremony was meant for him to break silence on the barrage of rumors circulating in the Liberian public about his next destination politically.

“I’m now a member of the LPDP because I feel this is where my dream and aspirations for the Liberian people can be realized,” he said. “Liberia is the only country that I have and the only country that I cherish. My vision for a collective Liberian dream is profound.”
