After several weeks of investigation into an alleged rape case involving one Anthony Nwosu, 44, a Nigerian national, as perpetrator against Aisha Swaray in Gbarnga, Bong County, the Women and Children Protection Services (WACPS) division of Liberia National Police (LNP) has finally charged Mr. Nwosu with rape.
According to police charge sheet, on Monday, March 26, 2018, at about 4: 47 PM, Ayouba Doumayah, the father of the victim, reported to the WACPS that his ten year-old daughter, Aisha, was sexually assaulted by a man identified as Anthony Nwosu.
The complainant said the victim (Aisha) could not remember the actual date and time that Anthony Nwosu allegedly committed the act against her. Aisha’s father has meanwhile sent her to the C.B. Dunbar Medical Center for treatment.
Victim Aisha Swaray told investigators that one day she was walking along the road at Ganta Parking Community when the suspect, Anthony Nwosu, called her. According to Aisha, Anthony told her to go and buy him a bowl of rice, which she did. When she came with the rice, Nwosu allegedly invited her to his room.
She said when she entered the room, according to the police charge sheet, suspect Anthony Nwosu put a video show on and began to take off her clothes. He then lay her down on his bed, removed his clothes and had sexual intercourse with her.
“He has been having sex with me so many times in his room; he always telling me not to tell anyone; if I do it he will kill me,” she said.
According to the victim, whenever she went to the defendant’s house he usually gave her forty Liberian dollars. She said that since the last time Anthony had sex with her, she has been sick and “white water” has been running from her private part.
Defendant Anthony Nwosu during Police preliminary investigations denied the allegation. However, he told investigators that he met Aisha sometime in January of this year. According to him, he was at his house when he met Aisha, who had asked him to charge a cellphone.
At that particular time, Nwosu admitted, he was in his room watching a pornographic movie. He said Aisha had also wanted to watch the movie but that he drove her away. However, she came back a second time and he beat her. According to Anthony, that was the only interaction between them.
As reported by the police charge sheet, based on the facts gathered, including the age of the victim, witnesses’ testimonies, medical report, the crime scene and the interaction between the victim and the defendant, WACPS of the LNP resolved to charge defendant Anthony Nwosu with rape, based on Section 14.70 of the New Penal Law.
Defendant Nwosu is currently being detained at the Gbarnga Central Prison awaiting trial.
