The newly appointed Managing Director of the National Housing Authority (NHA) Duannah Siryon has said that his administration would introduce measures to ensure efficiency in fulfilling the government’s pro-poor agenda.

He said at his first general meeting with the workers yesterday at the entity’s head office in Monrovia that the introduction of the new measures will be geared at paving the way to ensure an effective working relationship among the workers for better productivity.

In doing that, Mr. Siryon said his administration will introduce, among others, an ‘employees’ incentive program’ that will be consistent with the law and in line with the government’s pro-poor agenda.

He said his administration will encourage innovative ideas and will introduce a reward program to honor employees and those who are creative, to support the fulfillment of the government’s pro-poor agenda.

According to a release, Mr. Siryon said his administration will create a suitable working environment in which the workers will feel comfortable working with each other as a family that is based on the traditional Liberian hospitality.

Mr. Siryon, along with Mr. Tugbeh C. Tugbeh, Deputy Managing Director for administration seated by his side, said his administration will also develop a program that will get the workers involved in a two-hour monthly clean-up program of the NHA.

While too much work without play makes Jack a dull boy, as the popular adage goes, he said he would also introduce a ‘Fun Day Program’ to get the workers to loosen up as they work in the interest of the Liberian people.

“You need to ease the tension for working all day, five days a week, so that you can feel part of the effort to create an enabling environment to build a better future for the people,” he said.

He stressed the need for the NHA to develop an improved customer service platform that deals with customers who do business with the entity.

“The customer should feel part of what we do at the NHA,” he stated. “So, we want to encourage all of you to begin to do things positively different and always remember that you are serving the Liberian people.”

Duannah said while change is inevitable, there are people who don’t accept it so easily. However, NHA workers should understand that if the government’s pro-poor agenda must succeed, which it should, then it is obligatory on every worker to work along with the management to make it a reality.

He called on the employees to be there for each other, respect each other and work together for the common good of the entity. More importantly, he said every employee should develop a customer-friendly attitude, “so that those we cater to will know that we are there for them.”

Meanwhile he assured them of his support and noted that his administration will do everything possible and within its limit to make the working atmosphere better for all.

Responding, Madam Doyen Gibson, vice president of the workers’ union, welcomed Siryon’s presence at the NHA and pledged to work with his administration. She expressed the union’s appreciation for the acquaintance meeting to get to know each other as they work to implement the government’s pro-poor agenda.
