The National Elections Commission (NEC) will this Friday commence the recount of votes cast between candidates of the Alliance for Peace and Democracy and the Liberty Party in the 2014 Special Senatorial Election in two districts in Lofa County.
The districts are electoral district number one in Kolahun District and electoral district number four in Voinjama District.
The decision is in compliance with a Supreme Court ruling handed down, Monday, June 1, in the election irregularities case between the Alliance for Peace and Democracy (APD) on one hand and the National Elections Commission (NEC), all poll workers, the Liberty Party candidate in the 2014 Special Senatorial Election. The two contesting candidates were Stephen Zargo and Representative Eugene Fallah Kpakar.
The Supreme Court’s ruling mandates NEC to complete the recount within a period of 15 days.
Meanwhile, NEC is inviting representatives of political parties, the Press Union of Liberia, Elections Coordinating Committee, Liberia National Bar Association and the religious community, among others, to attend the reading of the Supreme Court’s Mandate on Tuesday at NEC’s at Tubman Boulevard and Ninth Street headquarters in Monrovia.
