With Nimba County being the first so far to book their ticket to the quarterfinals of the ongoing National County Meet, today’s final group stage matches will determine the next seven counties that will join Nimba to come to Monrovia.
Nimba on Tuesday advanced to the quarterfinals following their second win against Lofa County in a 3-0 thriller in Gbarnga, Bong County. The Mountaineers will go against host county Bong that are in need of just a point to qualify. Grand Gedeh will be hoping to win their match against the group’s underperformers Lofa County and also have their fingers crossed for Nimba to defeat Bong. If all goes in their direction, they will be leveled on points with Bong with one side qualifying on goal difference.
In Group II, it will be an intriguing encounter between champions Montserrado and Grand Bassa that are leveled at the top with four points apiece. Both teams will be playing to avoid defeat. If both teams draw, they may not be so lucky as one of them may be replaced if Margibi that are seated third on the log with two points secure three points against bottom side Rivercess.
In Group III, Grand Cape Mount are already seated with three points out of two matches and will be awaiting the results from Bomi and Gbarpolu counties’ match. Gbarpolu will need to win above 3-0 if they must qualify for the quarterfinals, while Bomi will need just a draw to come to Monrovia along with Cape Mount.
Finally, in Group IV, leaders Grand Kru will need just a draw to qualify for the quarterfinals when they lock horns with River Gee that are bottom of the group and still hopeful of a win in their final match. It will also be a must-win situation between Sinoe and Maryland counties that are in the second and the third positions with three and two points respectively.
