The headquarters of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) was a scene of solemn reflections interspersed with timid celebration as five employees who have diligently served the entity with commitment and dedication for so many years were bade farewell by colleagues and administrators.

The honorees, many of whom were in senior capacities at the entity, had reached the retirement age of 60 and were yesterday surrounded by families members, their loved ones and friends as the NASSCORP family, led by its Director-General, Dewitt vonBallmoos, lauded.

Those retired include Mr. Varnie G. Tamba, Coordinator of Inspection; Mr. John N. Harris, Inspection Assistant; John N. Campbell, Regional Director of RegionIV; Madam Maria Free-Mensah, Executive Secretary of Regional Operations and Mr. Morris M. D. Massalay.

The 2017 retirement and honoring program brought together employees and staff of the Corporation at the end of the year to celebrate their achievements. Moreover, it is when the Corporation gives honor to whom honor is due.

Upon lauding and congratulating the retirees, DG vonBallmoos said their departure is not an end to their services to the Corporation as they will be called upon some point to time to render some service. “You are experts in your respective areas and we will be looking up to you to help us out in times of needs,” he said.

He also referred to them as the institutional membrane and that their services will always be needed.

“We are very grateful for the time you share with us. Your time and services to the corporation has made it what it is today. It was great working with you all. We all will carry these fond memories,” he added.

He wished the honorees Godspeed as they as they depart and prepare for other ventures in life. “As age comes, you have to leave but there is always that fear of the unknown that brings a lot of apprehension,” he said. “This is what you know and have been doing for so many years so there can be some apprehensions, but this is not the end of anything but the beginning of new chapters in your lives,” he noted.

The retirees were also being honored for demonstrating of the Corporation’s core values of excellence.

The Coordinator for Human Resources, Mr. Isaac M. Glay-Weon, presented the retirees to NASSCORP’s Deputy Director General, Mr. Nyan D. Twayen Jr., who later certificated and awarded them. Mr. Twayen presented each of the retirees a package of three envelopes that contain what he termed as “NASSCORP’s Handshake,” first pension payment and Providence Fund. He also thanked them for their dedicated services to the entity.

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Mr. Varnie G. Tamba lauded the Management for their hard work and dedication to the empowerment of employees. “For some of us, this is the only working environment we have known our entire lives so we are grateful for serving diligently for all these years,” he said.

“We have benefitted from this institution a lot and it was all because of your support and the good working relationship we have had over the years. We pray that this corporation goes from strength to strength in uplifting Liberia,” he noted.

“Thanks for everything, you are a great administration,” Mr. Tamba told DG vonBallmoos and other staff.

The program was spiced up with beautiful musical renditions, jokes and tasty refreshments.
