The Monrovia Football Academy over the weekend raised US$4,915 from its first scholarship fundraiser held in Monrovia at the Royal Grand Hotel.

According to the management of the academy, the total money raised was a combination of individual donations, t-shirt sales, and proceeds from Royal Hotel’s brunch.

The scholarship fundraiser was part of the academy’s plans to fund 10 academic scholarships. The targeted amount for the fundraiser was US$5,000. However, the academy via its official Facebook page lauded the participants of the fundraiser and added that the accumulated amount will cover 10 academic scholarships for student-athletes at the academy for the 2018-19 school year.

There are 70 students (41 boys, 29 girls) currently at the academy. In the 2017-18 school year, the academy grew from 47 students and three academic grades to 70 students ages 8-14, in grades 3-6.
