MC Caro might still be an underground rapper, but she very well could be the next big female rap artist.
The 23-year-old high school graduate, who has gone viral twice with her pro-poor freestyle which criticizes the Liberian government for its shortcomings, has quickly grabbed the attention of the public with her bold lyric and unique rap flow.
Surprisingly, her Facebook freestyles have been liked by die-hard supporters of the CDC-led government; thereby expanding her fan base and turning the unknown rap artist into an up and coming superstar overnight. She has been rated by pundits in the music industry as a raw and talented artist who is destined for greatness.
“From childhood days, I have always loved singing and being a rapper has been my dream career. The freestyle is actually intended to remind the President and his officials about the need not to forget their promise to improve the lives of the people.
“We have gone five months plus, and I have not seen anything tangible; that’s why I came up with the freestyle. And because it was nice and well prepared, the general public loves it, including partisans of the ruling CDC party.
While MC Caro’s sudden popularity came like a whirlwind, it is something that did not happen overnight, because she has been working toward this since dreaming of being a rapper; that is, not just to become a rapper who comes into the limelight and fade quickly but the best ever female MC in Liberia.
“I have been preparing for this moment a long time ago by writing lyrics every day and practicing to perfect my flow; it’s been a long time coming. I didn’t mean for this to go viral. I just posted a video of me rapping,” she says. “If that’s what it took for people to start paying attention, then so be it. But it’s been a long time coming.”
Now with her huge popularity, MC Caro, who lives in Caldwell, outside Monrovia, is now working on her debut LP, which is expected to be out a month from now.
“I’m cooking something for the fans. They just have to be patient because I want to make it nice. However, the office “’Pro-poor, no Hope’ single will be available next week,” MC Caro said.
