A dramatic event unfolded in Grand Bassa County when a man identified as Oliver Joe traditionally legalized his relationship with his late girlfriend identified as Mary Davis before her burial.
The marriage was a demand by the deceased’s parents, since their daughter and Mr. Joe lived together as husband and wife before her death.
Their union was blessed with eight children in the 32 years they lived together and therefore the deceased’s family said before he could own the children, he must perform the symbolic marriage since he did not marry their mother.
The “wedding” between the deceased and the boyfriend, occurred in full view of the deceased’s parents and other citizens in Ceegar Town, in District #2, Grand Bassa County.
After the ceremony, the remains of the deceased were turned over to Mr. Joe for burial because he had become the husband after satisfying the traditional requirements for marriage.
