A man identified as Emmanuel Johnson was arrested last week by an officer of the Reliable Security Service Incorporated (RSSI) assigned at International Bank Liberia Limited (IBLL), on Broad Street in connection with the disappearance of a handbag, which was allegedly stolen from the bank.
The bag in question is the property of Ms. Antoinette Henry, an employee of the bank.
Johnson, 31, is a resident of Gardnersville who later moved to West Point. He was arrested on January 21, at about 1:43 pm
According to the RSSI officer, the perpetrator was seen in the bank lobby with one of the customer service officers and even went to Miss Antoinette office and pretended to be transacting business with her. By the time she turned her back, Johnson took the bag and started walking out.
“We were immediately informed by one of our security officers and, while making his way out, the security officer apprehended and brought him over to our office,” RSSI officer said.
The apprehending officer, who could not be named, said during their investigation, Johnson admitted that he is the one who stole the bag from Antoinette’s office when he went with his friends to receive a money transfer.
Since being caught in the act, there have been other testimonies that he has a constant habit of stealing from offices. It was also established that the perpetrator visited another office (DIACONIA) and stole one of their staffs phone, the officer indicated. Sources say he also once infiltrated the grounds of the J. J. Roberts United Methodist School dressed as a student and made away with many items belonging to other students.
Meanwhile, Johnson has been turned over to the Liberia National Police for further investigation.
