Mr. Jabateh promises free, fair and transparent LIBA elections

The Ad Hoc Election Commission of the Liberian Business Association (LIBA) yesterday released the electoral guidelines and calendar of events at the Association’s national head office on A.B. Tolbert Road in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.

In accordance with the calendar of events, LIBA is scheduled to hold its elections on May 12 in Gbarnga, Bong County.

The commission is therefore encouraging parties, individuals and the general public to take advantage of said publication to enhance a smooth electoral process.

According to a press release, the commission is currently receiving applications from candidates through a vetting process at LIBA’s national head office in Paynesville. It said those interested in positions at the May 12 elections must have been active in the association for the last two years prior to the upcoming exercise.

A release, signed by the chair of the Ad Hoc Elections Commission, Loseney Jabateh, said positions available to contest for are president, vice president, secretary general and financial secretary.

“All candidates must be above 18 years, must be an active business person with a legal or registered business, with good financial standing with LIBA, and should be persons without blemish record in society,” Jabateh said in the release.

He noted that any interested candidate must be a Liberian citizen and should be nominated by one business entity, as no one entity shall nominate more than one person for a single vacancy or nominate more than one person to contest numerous positions.

According to Jabateh, the secretary general and the financial secretary must be computer literate and possess good communication skills both oral and written, and must at least be a high school graduate or above, but previous experience in similar position will be an added advantage.

He explained that anyone interested in the financial secretary position should not have any tainted record of financial malfeasance, because the Commission is ready to provide clarity on any issue concerning the elections, and therefore prospective candidates should contact the Commission at LIBA headquarters for further information.
