Fending off media reports of misappropriation
The Board of Commissioners (BOC) of the Liberia Anti Corruption Commission (LACC) has requested the General Auditing Commission (GAC) to conduct an immediate audit of LACC’s expenditure of its employees’ remittances disbursed to the commission by the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, a press release said.
The BOC said it made the decision in light of media reports alleging that employees’ remittances were misappropriated or misapplied. It is clear that these allegations have claimed the public’s interest and generated a lot of reactions, casting doubt upon the integrity and credibility of the LACC, the Board stated.
The audit will investigate what occurred and if actions taken by the LACC regarding the employees’ remittances were in adherence to established policies and procedures, a release signed by LACC executive chairperson James N. Verdier, Jr. said.
In a letter sent to the GAC, the BOC asked that the audit be conducted speedily to address any blemish such accusations of misapplication of employees’ remittances have come to have on the LACC Board of Commissioners and the agency at-large.
