Junior Lone Star FC and Young Boys United FC over the weekend settled to a 2-2 draw in a friendly encounter at the St. Philip’s Football Field in Supermarket, Gardnersville. The match was in continuation of both teams’ preparation towards the resumption of the Liberia Football Association National League.
The Stars took an early lead in the seventh minute, after striker Ben Somda converted a penalty when United committed a handball in their 18-yard box. The match became tense as both teams made attempts to change the scoreline, but the scores remained 1-0 in favor of Junior Lone Star FC to end the first half.
Later in the second half, the Stars had several chances to increase their tally. Forkpah Mulbah and Melvin Giggs had clear opportunities but the goalkeeper was in a better position to deny their attempts.
Carmo Ballah, who was making his debut for United, introduced himself to the team through a brilliant performance after he increased pressure on the Stars. he later scored the equalizer from the spot in the 55th minute after a handball in the penalty area against the Stars.
It later became a one-sided match when Ballah led several attacks for United down the left flank to keep the pressure on the Stars. Their attacks later led to United taking the lead after forward Ballah completed his brace to change the scores to 2-1 in the 72nd minute.
However, Junior Lone Star through captain Willie Jones, who was introduced in the 67th minute, could not afford to concede a defeat and was quick to reply to his opponents after skillfully breaking from the left angle of United’s defense to set up Melvin Giggs, whose right foot strike led to an own goal to tie the game in the 74th minute.
United’s team manager, Levis Kerzuah praised both teams for their impressive performances and commended the JLSFC for the friendly match.
