Credible information reaching the Daily Observer has it that the Liberia National Police (LNP) is investigating an apparent suicide at the Monrovia Central Prison, after a man accused of armed robbery was found dead last Thursday, June 5.

Augustine Kollie, no known permanent address, was allegedly discovered dead at the notorious Block ‘D’ cell on Wednesday, June 4,  days before he was to be arraigned in Criminal Court ‘D,’ according to a source.

Kollie has been held indefinitely without trial at the Central Prison.

The source further hinted to the Observer that Kollie was discovered dead in his orange jump suit, standard prison attire.

“Detailed evidence found in Kollie’s cell is yet to be released as investigation continues,” the source said.

He was facing the charge of second-degree robbery, a crime that could have led to felony conviction with “significant jail time,” the source claimed.
