INCHR to Host High Level Meeting Today


The Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR) will convene a High Level Ministerial and Agency Meeting at the C.C. Dennis Auditorium in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Tuesday, December 20, from 9:00am to 2:00pm.

According to a press release, this high level meeting will focus on the discussion of the Status of Implementation of the then Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) recommendations.

The five hour meeting will include presentations on the background of the TRC recommendations, the mandate of the INCHR and an update on the status of implementation of the TRC recommendations by the responsible Ministries and Agencies.

As provided by the TRC final report, Session 18.0 states that “The TRC hereby recommends that the Government of Liberia assumes its responsibilities and see all recommendations of the TRC as both a duty and an obligation.”

Clause18.7. states: “Recommendations related to the establishment and resourcing of the Independent National Human Rights Commission (INHRC), the TRC recommends that the Independent Human Rights Commission be brought up to international standard in conformity with the Paris Principles and to ensure that the INHRC functions effectively including discharging its responsibilities as inheritors of the TRC process.”

The INCHR meanwhile called on all concerned to be in full attendance and on time, the release said.
