Foya University Student Association (FUSA) received L$52,000 from the office of District Representative, Eugene Fallah Kparker on Tuesday, as part of an assistance package to boost its scholarship fund drive.
According to Rep. Kparkar’s office, the amount is an initial contribution to the association’s scholarship program to benefit students from Foya Statutory District attending various universities in the country.
“This is, however, a promise fulfilled,” said Rep. Kparkar.
Presenting the amount to the association at his Capitol Building Office was the representative’s administrative assistant, Borbor S. Borngouh, who said that the amount was part payment of the L$100, 000 pledged by Rep. Kparkar to the association for the ensuing academic semester.
Rep. Kparkar, who is currently representing Liberia at a Pan African Parliament meeting in South Africa, said prior to his departure that he had instructed Mr. Borngouh to make the money available to the association.
“This is because most of the students are currently facing financial obligations at their various universities in order to begin the semester,” said Borngouh.
He also disclosed that the balance payment of L$48, 000 will be made available immediately upon Rep. Kparkar’s return to the country. He emphasized the desire of the lawmaker to continue his support to the association, saying, “The Representative remains unbending to ensuring that young people of Liberia, especially from Foya, will always be reached in times like this.”
Receiving the cash on behalf of FUSA,its Scholarship Committee Chairman, Jerry Dukoe, thanked Rep. Kparkar and his team for the contribution.
In his statement, Mr. Dukoe acknowledged the many financial contributions Rep. Kparkar has made to the association, adding, “This, I know about Rep. Kparkar, which he continues to do, especially for the students.” He promised that the amount will be used for its intended purpose.
