The prestigious Nigerian Pilot Newspaper has nominated President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as its “2015 Person of the Year.”
According to an Executive Mansion release, on behalf of their Board of Editors, a letter from the Publisher of the Nigerian Newsworld Magazine and the Nigerian Pilot Newspaper indicated that she has been recognized because of her “outstanding performance in the transformation of Liberia from a war-ravaged nation to one of the most successful African countries.”
The award will be presented to the President at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja Nigeria during a formal ceremony on December 4, 2015. It is also in recognition of the President’s sterling performance since she assumed the mantle of leadership in post-war Liberia as well as her unquantifiable contributions to gender mainstreaming in the country’s national development, the Publisher’s letter stated.
Ghanaian President, John Mahama is expected to also be honored at the same event. The Mansion release did not give further details, but it may be recalled that since President Sirleaf came to power in 2006, she has received numerous local and international awards.
