President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf yesterday commended collaboration between officers of the Liberian National Police (LNP) and community dwellers across the country.

Dedicating the newly constructed Zone 6 Police Station in Brewerville City, Montserrado County yesterday, the President said, “What we are witnessing here today is an example of good cooperation between the citizens and the police. We are proud of you for what you have achieved,” she said.

The President also commended the people of Brewerville for providing the land for the construction of the Police Station,  saying they did well because that is one way to demonstrate a strong spirit of partnership and cooperation.

“Thanks to all of you for making this happen,  said President Sirleaf, adding that her government’s partners, including the Swedish Government, the People’s Republic of China, The US Embassy, UNMIL and many others are part of the history making process of the country.

The legitimacy of the whole justice system starts with public trust and when the LNP takes decisions the public may not readily understand, the officers become unpopular with the people, Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman said in his remarks. He assured the public that all is done in the name of enforcing the law and creating a safe environment where we can all live together happily.

Brewerville City Mayor, George Varney Curtis, expressed the residents’ appreciation for the construction of the police depot.

Until the completion of the facility, police officers assigned to Montserrado Electoral District #17, which include the city of Brewerville have over the years been squatting in one of the buildings belonging to the City Corporation.

Several residents nearby also expressed appreciation for the new police depot and hoped that the police will do their job as outlined in their duty manual.
