President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has departed the country on a three-leg foreign tour that ends December 6, an Executive Mansion release has said.
According to the release, the President will participate in a number of events in Accra, Ghana, London, United Kingdom, and Abuja, Nigeria, respectively, in the interest of Liberia and the sub-region.
President Sirleaf’s first stop will be in Accra to participate as Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority in a one-day meeting aimed at denouncing violence during the elections in Ghana, which are scheduled for December 7.
President Sirleaf will later proceed to London where she is expected to participate in a fundraiser for the Liberian education sector.
The last leg of the President’s tour will pertain to her role as Chairperson of ECOWAS Authority. She will pay a two-day working visit to Abuja, Nigeria, where she will acquaint herself with the activities and functions of the ECOWAS Commission.
Meanwhile, during President Sirleaf’s absence from the country, the Minister of National Defense, Brownie J. Samukai, will serve as Coordinator of the Cabinet in consultation with the Vice President and in telephone contact with the President.
