ECOWAS Speaker Delivers Keynote Address at Cuttington University


Sidie Mohamed Tunis, the right honorable speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, is expected to deliver a keynote address at the Cuttington University’s commencement in Gbarnga, Bong County, on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Right Honorable Tunis will address an audience composed of government officials, faculty of the members, members of the staff of the ECOWAS Parliament, graduates, family members and well-wishers.

The speaker is an alumnus of the Cuttington University having graduated in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.

Honorable Tunis is currently a member of the Sierra Leonean Parliament representing constituency 101, Pujehum District. He is the most ranking member in the parliament at present having entered there since 2002.

Tunis has a wealth of experience in legislative politics, governance, and diplomacy. He served as majority leader in the fifth parliament of the second Republic of Sierra Leone and was a ranking member of the Sierra Leone delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament prior to his election as the Honorable Speaker of the fifth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament.

Before his parliamentary career, Honorable Tunis was an investment consultant, core investor and founder of the National Utility and Supplies Company For-Tra Meyer, a subsidiary of a major company in Germany. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, 2008-2011 and the Guma Valley Water Company in 1998-2002.  

In March 2020, he was elected Speaker of the fifth Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament, a position he now occupies with a four-year mandate.
