A man and a woman sustained slight injuries yesterday when the ceiling on the outside of the Ecobank hall on the corner of Ashmun and Randall Streets collapsed around 12:20 p.m., Stephen N. Nimene, supervisor of the Holistic Security Agency confirmed to the Daily Observer. The collapsed ceiling is between the rear exit of the banking hall and the steps leading up to SM Brussels’ ticketing office.
Nimene said that the woman slightly wounded in the incident is an employee of Brussels Airlines.
“We thank God that it is not one of the busy days for the airline where normally there are many customers in the area,” Nimene said.
There was no official comment from SM Brussels on the incident.
Public Works engineers on the scene told our reporter that “it is a problem with the ceiling and nothing else and we are in control.”
One said, “The building is fine because there is nothing wrong with it, just the ceiling.”
Sources told this reporter that although structural investigations are going on, it could be that rain water had seeped into some part of the building that affected the ceiling, causing the collapse.
A contingent of police officers sealed off the usual busy traffic on Randall Street.
