The President of DonamiSports, Doc Lawson has been invited to the official opening of the Sinkor United LFA Sub Association league on September 22.
DonamiSports is a United States/Liberia based not-for-profit grassroots football development organization that has been working with the Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) to sponsor soccer games for kids in the country.
In an invitational letter to Mr. Lawson from the LFA Sinkor Sub-Committee (LFA-SSC), signed by its chairman Amara U. K. Sambola, Sr., a copy of which is with the Daily Observer, they told Mr. Lawson the objectives of SUSA, a Liberia Football Association sub-committee, which includes their forthcoming 14-team 3rd division league.
Sambola told Lawson in the letter that SSC is mandated to identify, recruit and train talented soccer youths and reminded him that over the years SSC has contributed to its mandate, evidence, he said of many youths who have risen to play in the first division and for the national teams.
“As a result of this mandate,” Sambola said, “we will officially commence our 2018-2019 league on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the William V. S. Tubman High School Sports Ground at 2 p.m.” He, therefore, requested Mr. Lawson to attend the program and take the kickoff.
Sambola also provided a list of items that they want Mr. Lawson to consider and at the appropriate time contribute as his share of support to the development of the soccer players in Sinkor, Monrovia.
Sambola added a list of needed items to the letter sent to Mr. Lawson. The items included footballs, goal-post net, substitution board, benches, umbrellas, tables, medical kits, scoreboard, medals, trophies, jerseys, chairs, and whistles.
Mr. Lawson, who left Liberia at age 10, returned to the country after 40 years and has been providing thousands of sporting equipment (footballs, jerseys etc.) to the YMCA-Donami grassroots soccer league, for nearly ten years.
His grassroots tournaments are held in slum communities of West Point, Clara Town and other places in Bong County, Margibi County, and many others.
Mr. Lawson is an Olympian that is he participated in the Olympic Games, representing the United States and he also featured for clubs in the United States Major League Soccer (MLS) and the North American Soccer League (NASL), a professional men’s soccer league with four teams in the United States and Puerto Rico.
