Agatha Nimene scored twice as 2nd place Blanco FC came from behind twice to beat Ambassadors FC 3-2 at the Blue Field in PHP Community on Saturday. The win for Blanco delayed Determine Girls’ title celebration as they will have to wait for their next match against Ambassadors next weekend in Kakata.
Before the weekend’s fixtures, the league leaders needed five points to be confirmed champions of the 2020/21 Orange National League Women’s Division, but could have gone on to win the league if Blanco would have failed to collect all three points against Ambassadors.
However, Coach Robertson Werner and his girls could still be confirmed champions this weekend if they collect all three points against Ambassadors.
Ambassadors failed to maintain their lead twice on Saturday after Kebeh Lamine got the opener from a set-piece in the 2nd minute before Sierra Leone international Fatmata Turay netted the equalizer 13 minutes later.
With just two minutes plus added time left to bring the first half to a close, Edwardline Jackson put Ambassadors in front for the second time to end the first half 2-1.
At that moment, Determine Girls were having a goal feast at the George Weah Technical Center in Careysburg with five goals up against Pro Sisters at halftime. They went on to score three additional goals in the second half to thrash Pro Sisters 8-0. A hat-trick from Guinean International Bountou Sylla, a brace apiece from Hawa Conte and Ruth Wesseh, and a lone goal from Paulinho Agbotsu, sealed the team’s 12th win out of 13 games.
Unfortunately, things did not go on as Determine Girls expected at the Blue Field. Agatha Nimene made it 2-2 just six minutes into the second half when she curved in a free-kick from a close range.
That wasn’t enough for the outstanding forward as she capitalized an error from defender Lindy Gaye in the 71st minute to change the final score to 3-2 in favor of Blanco FC against Ambassadors.
