Defense Minister Wants Logistical Support for AFL

Defense Minister Brownie Samukai has appealed to the Government of the People’s Republic of China to provide assistance to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
Speaking at a reception marking the 88th Anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) last Thursday, July 30, at the Chinese Embassy in Congo Town, Minister Samukai specifically requested from the Chinese assistance with logistical support, as well as to build the capacity of the Engineering Company to augment their strength to at least a battalion size.
He however extolled the Chinese for their continuous assistance to authorities of the MOD over the years, saying the assistance to the ministry is helping to build the profile of the AFL.
For his part, the Chinese Military Attaché to Liberia, Captain Zhang Fenghua, reassured China’s continued assistance to the AFL. He assured the MOD authorities that China will continue to provide assistance to the AFL to effectively perform it responsibility of defending the country and safeguarding the peace.
Capt. Zhang also expressed the hope that the friendly ties currently subsisting between Liberia and the People’s Republic of China as well as the armed forces of the two countries will continue to grow from strength to strength.
