DEA Makes More Arrests of Drugs Peddlers


The Joint Security assigned in Grand Cape Mount County arrested a 45-year-old Nigerian national identified as Chukwuma Obeni, with a quantity of cocaine worth about US$2,200.
Obeni, according to the Drugs Enforcement Agency (DEA) was arrested at the Gbarr Foboi checkpoint in the county.
Quoting DEA agents assigned in the county, Director Souh said the Nigerian national was arrested Wednesday morning during a routine security inspection.
He disclosed that the drugs and suspect Obeni are currently in the custody of the Liberia National Police detachment in the county.
Meanwhile, the Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has detained a 42-year-old man on charges of illegal possession of narcotic drugs.
Henry Otto, a resident of Kakata, Margibi County, was on August 9 arrested by DEA officers assigned in that city at the 15 Gate Checkpoint with eight bags, which contained 52 kilograms of marijuana valued at L$289,000.
The police charge sheet stated that Otto was later turned over to the Anti-Narcotic Unit, Crime Services Department of the Liberia National Police (LNP) by Inspector Paul M. Nuah of the Careysburg Police detachment in Montserrado County.
During police investigation, according to the charge sheet, Otto admitted that he was the owner of the vehicle that was used to transport the illegal drugs, but denied that the illegal items belonged to him.
Meanwhile, Otto is detained at the Monrovia Central Prison awaiting trial.
